Hello, ive got a 760, when cruising it seems so down by the stern and to get on the plane needs quite a lot of throttle to sit nice. Anyone fitted trim tabs to theres? Just wondering how much difference it made. I use to have a arvor 250 and could ease the engine back and have it trimmed planing down to about 12 knots before it drop off. If so any recommendations as to what tabs? I see these smart tabs now advertised but dont no how good they actually are. Guessing electric tabs would be the way to go?
thanks

I have one. It is not a planing hull, just a semi-displacement so you can't compare. You will not get it to plane. Yes, the 760 does, at it's semi displacement speeds, have a very bows-up attitude. I have trim-tabs and they will level off and bring the bows down somewhat but at the expense of a small speed reduction so now I do not use them. The only exception is above 18 knots, if the water tank that is on one side is very low, I use them to trim thwartship.

Just that the 760 and arvors are pretty much identical shape under water, arvor is also semi displacement but never use to dig its stern in, always use to be flat with the tabs and still maintain good speed. Would you say its worth fitting tabs or leave it how it is?

I have never found a need for trim tabs. When I open the throttle the bow lifts, exactly as I would expect of a semi-displacement hull. Although 20 years old ( the boat, not me) I still get close to Beneteau's claimed maximum speed.

Mine is still on the hard (lift next Tuesday) but I was struck on the sea trial how little bow lift there was, certainly compared to my last s/d outboard powered boat. I have Volvo tabs but will hopefully only use them for lateral trim as tanks empty/fill etc.

I’m a new owner of 760 since last October. I think that this hull doesn’t need tabs for the trim during normal navigation, I’m impressed about its seakeeping at low speed (12/13 kts). I belive that where stabilizer tabs maybe needs is when the sea come from stern and, how they said, the FW tank is full. Maybe something like “zipwake” models. I just made a good hull work removing all old paint and repaint by spray. Now at 2500rpm speed is 13kts with good trim and max speed in very good condition is 26kts. The hull it’s very well designed to work without tabs

I fitted VP tabs to my 805 and found them to be invaluable not only for trim re tanks but mainly for maintaining speed in big seas. Would definitely do again. Lots of peeps on this forum think unnecessary but not in my experience. Stops the slamming at speed. Full trim reduced speed by about .5 of a knot

Regarding max speed of an Antares 760 with 200HP engine: A Beneteau brochure dated 2008 quotes "close to 24 knots". A boat review published in the Australian Go Boating magazine quoted "better than 20 knots" with a Nanni 4.390 200hp . A sea trials record sheet produced by Beneteau in 2007 for a new boat with a Nanni 4.390 engine with no antifouling, no wind and 2pob shows 23.5knots. My 20 year old 760 VP engine with polished prop and new antifouling will max at 21.5 knots.

Emanuel, the performance of your boat is impressive. Which engine do you have?
I have the TAMD41 Volvo. I was very impressed when I tested my boat immediately after the hull works. I have to say that I did an incredible job, same to a sailing boat. I removed all old paint till the gelcoat, sanded with 180 paper, 2 layer of Nautix epoxy gard and 2 layer of antifouling designed also for sailing boat, all done by spray (Thanks to a friend in the shipyard). I tested also max speed with 15kts of wind from the bow and bit of wave, I reached 23,5. Before works max sp was 21 in good sea condition.

Hi, I'm Peter, new to the Forum, sounds like a lively discussion platform! I've got a Hardy 20 family pilot, we expect to take delivery of a 760 in the next 3 weeks (anybody interested in a Hardy 20 with a 1 year old Evinrude Etec 90? ) The Hardy 20 is a semi displacement hull, the Hardy owners club recommend trim tabs. We fitted Nauticus Smart Tabs. She gets on the plane really quickly and will stay there down to about 12mph! On the plane the Hardy seems pretty level too. I do wonder whether the big lump of Nanni 200hp diesel sitting midships alters/sets the 760 up nicely for balance?, I can see why that would be the case. I'll cruise this summer and see how i feel about trim tabs but if i do decide the 760 might benefit from them then i'll have no hesitation in getting another set of Smart tabs. Hope this might be of interest to other 760 owners on the forum?

Hello Peter. Welcome. If you search in these forums there was some postings about Antares 760 trimtabs not long ago. In 6 years of ownership my conclusion is that if my trimtabs ever stopped working I would not bother to replace them. Yes, they bring the bow down, but at the expense of speed and they do not help in getting onto a semi-plane at all. The boat works perfectly well without them. The only minor benefit I have found is I can level side to side if my water tank is nearly empty and I'm up to 18 knots. I don't usually cruise more than 15 and don't need that function at that speed so, again, would not miss them.

Edit: just seen that the previous postings I mentioned are earlier in this string.......

I’ve got Volvo QL tabs on mine with around 10 position settings, maybe more. I generally use the lightest setting which brings the bow down a touch and maybe adds a few tenths of a knot, any more and speed drops. In some conditions I’ve found another touch on one side can level the very slight starboard bow high attitude. As above, if they stopped working I wouldn’t spend money to replace them, the boat is very well behaved without.

Edited to add, the comment in a previous post about 26 knots seems ‘optimistic’. Mine feels like it’s starting to chine walk at 22 knots, even if I could persuade it to go faster I think it would feel very unstable.

I've been looking for fuel consumption figures on my 760 with a Nani 200hp engine. I was looking for confirmation of the chart/list the I had pinned to the dashboard on a second hand boat I bought. So if you assume a new Nanni 4.390 with no fowling or wind on a lake and you'll be somewhere near. mine is less than a couple of knots adrift at the 2400 mark. Just as a guide you understand. :)

I have done about 750 miles on my 760 (Nanni 200hp) and the average fuel consumption is 1.25L/nm. That is a mixture of cruising on the river and the ocean at 6-16kn. I don't usually go above 2800RPM, which is about 15kn.

Your table looks very close to what I got. I have the Nanni engine PC interface, which reads the instantaneous fuel consumption but it needs to be plugged into a laptop and so far I only used it at idle to clear some error codes. I will check it under load as well when I get the chance.

looks like your chart was reproduced from this one produced by Beneteau and dated 2007
