Hi,

Replaced old exhaust elbow on my Yanmar 4LH-HTE engine with a new stainless steel unit as old one was badly corroded. I'm trying to find wet exhaust hose with an internal diameter of 93mm to suit new unit. I did try a piece with a 102mm ID, but it would not pull in tight with clamps due the spiral wire embedded in the rubber.

Directions to a web address or supplier much appreciated..

Is this hose to connect the exhaust elbow to the water-trap? How long is it and is it a straight run? What was the bore of the old hose? A picture of your layout would be helpful.

Hi,

The pipe is about 500mm long to water trap from elbow. I've attached a diagram of engine showing elbow, slight downward radius to water trap. Can I use a silicone hose that can be softened in hot water to go over the end? Just need to withstand high temperature and be non collapsible/reinforced.

Thanks to all above for info..

Similar arrangement on my boat where that piece of hose is not spiral wire reinforced, just fabric reinforced just like a coolant hose. So if you get a piece of fabric reinforced silicone hose you should be able to make it fit but with silicone, as it is very soft, do not over tighten the hose clips.

Removing the spiral insert often allows fitting securely

You used to get your hose made to measure with soft cuffs (no spiral) ends to solve this problem

Yes, I see a lot of wet exhaust hose especially the heavy rubber with metal spiral embedded has 'Lloyds approved' imprinted on side. Guessing that if there was a fire on board that started around the exhaust the insurance agent might what to see this - if available!

Need to do homework on silicone as regards, temperature rating and reinforcement..

Scottie have you a link to supplier? ..probably less than half a meter with T bolt clamps

Thanks folks for your input.

Plenty for sale on ebay, for example, Air 1m Straight Silicone Hose Length - Pipe Tube Air Water Coolant Universal | eBay

Or Straight Reinforced Silicone Hose Coolant Water Boost Inlet Pipes - 500mm piece | eBay

The temperature resistance of silicone hose (180 C) is far higher than the epdm black rubber stuff (100 C)

Will do! currently cleaning the turbo which I have removed as it was totally clogged. A few photos attached; the turbo was cleaned with a dremel tool being careful not to touch the blades. The whole thing was totally encrusted in rust and carbon. Freed up now and no play in turbine shaft so hopefully should see a great improvement in power. Only have the boat a year so probably wasn't even working when boat I purchased the boat. You live and learn! Never really got above 2000rpm and about 8knots, there was me thinking I needed trim tabs! That would have been a costly mistake. The engine max rpm is 3300
