Beneteau Antares 30 questions

Been a while since I've updated this thread. Just past two years ownership, 175 hours on and still enjoying every minute on board.

Last year I had a small accident, not with the boat, I slipped down the stairs to forward cabin. I'll admit I was slightly under the influence at the time, but the main issue was I had turned the salon lights off before walking down the stairs. Very lucky I didn't break right arm, still have the scare from the slice of skin I took off on the edge of the steps.

Earlier this year I decided to add some under step LED's. I did some research and decided on these waterproof LED's covered in Silcone, from a company based in the Isle of Man. Phone number on their website and happy to talk, which is not always the case with LED suppliers. Seem a decent product inc three year warranty.

I bought two 1m lengths as I could cut and use both pre-wired ends. I decided to protect them with DC-DC regulator, this one supports 8-40V input with 12V 2A output, more than enough for a few LED's.

I decided to mount the regulator in here, away from any possible Hydrogen gas that might be in the battery compartment, just in case the regulator failed and the fuse didn't do the job.

Fuse in holder is the output side of the regulator, I use a spare fuse on the main distribution board to power the regulator.

The LED's are adhesive backed, but I also used some superglue along the edge of the LED to make sure they weren't coming off.

I hid the on/off switch here, I can reach this from the bottom step. It's to the left of the fridge (for those who own one).

Final result, a lot of light from two LED's per step

Hi Anders!

Sorry to here of your accident.

The LED lights looks really nice.

May I ask you, have you done anything to the master bed? For me the bed lean forward and I'm having trouble sleeping this way since all blood comes to the head.

Best Regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,

I can't say I noticed that problem. I don't know if it will make that much difference but do you always fill the water tank? It's under the bed and may be it causes the boat to lean forward slightly? I usually have mine 1/3 full.

I did find the standard mattress too hard, so I invested in this mattress topper.

I did look into a purpose designed mattress from a marine bedding company, but £700 was a bit rich so the above seemed reasonable for £250 for the king size. I trimmed the head end to fit with Stanley knife, perfect fit and much more comfortable :D

Slight drift, but we had a mattress custom made for Rafiki, and it cost about £400. We made a template from the original mattress. We had a new foam cut to size in memory foam, and then had a seamstress make a cover for the foam, again from our template. This fitted perfectly. We also had the seamstress make a couple of fitted sheets, another £100. The result is fantastic. Really comfortable mattress that we can make up so much more easily.
Apologies for the Fred Rift :D

I was worried I'd mess up paper template, the price included them templating.

I'm happy with result for £250 it's a lot more comfortable. Decent fitted sheets would be a bonus tho.

Worth the Fred rift ;)

Template was quite straightforward. Mattress on brown paper then traced around the outside. Brought the mattress home as we have plenty of floor space for tracing, and needed to dispose old one.

We sleep so we have our feet to mirror/ reading lights. We find it gives a more open feel with more elbow room and feet lower than head. I put 50mm of memory foam on top of the original mattress and made a big difference.

I am about to anti-foul my A30 myself.
Anyone got coverage figures per coat?
I will apply two coats
What brand have you applied?

It should be under the forward cushion of the U shaped Sofa, close to the port side.

Thanks guys
I will refill tomorrow

Now for another queston

Emptying the head greywater

Are there only two faucets under the sink.
I prodded the outlet thinking barnicle bill may have slipped on board, but to no avail.
Pump works OK

Thanking you in anticipation

Glenn

Thanks again Anders

It is 23.38 in Sydney now.

I wanted to check before off to bed - just in case I missed something

Have a great day

Glenn

I have for once read a long thread from start to finish and it was brilliant. Loved the 30 with the grey hull and the Coppercoat etc etc. Just looked fab. My 30 was a good boat and never let me down. I bought mine from Dickies in Brighton and will always remember a lady that worked there called Jan who was simply made for the new boater as I was at the time. She was so ace that when that office closed down I tried to offer her a job working for us. My abiding memory of the 30 was that the hull, as that was its party piece. If you said to me today that I was a 30 owner again I would say give me a stern thruster and a few minor mods and let's crack on. Thanks for the thread and good luck to you.

Hi All you past and present A30 owners, after years of fishing boats the wife has retired and now wants to come out on the boat with me! Last year we purchased a MF805 and loved it but according to the boss it’s too small. I’ve narrowed down its replacement to an Antares 30 or a MF10 but the A30 is the firm favourite. Looking to buy, are there any sellers out there? Preferably along the UK south coast around 500hrs or less. 2010/2011 Any takers? Rangerman287@gmail.com
