Re: Antares 30 questions

Hello Friends,

I have a bad green navigation light, and i have tried to find a replacement bulbs for this without any luck. Do you know where i can find these bulbs and what are they called?

I think Paul replaced one of his bulbs, I'll ask him when I see him this weekend.

I had the same problem all I did was buy a new bulb from halfords about £1.50
Mine kept working if I banged it it was a dodgy filimemt
Cheapest place was halfords off the shelf.

Re: Antares 30 questions

Hello all
A question to you Antares 30 owners please
I have been looking at buying a 30 but was dissuaded by a marina's sales office
I will be based on the Thames but also travelling further afield
The reason they gave was that the rudder was too small and the manoeuvrability at low Thames speeds would be really tricky
Anyone got any experience of this
Many thanks in advance.
Ian

Re: Antares 30 questions

Years ago I used to use a Fairline 32 Sedan with twin Engines, that was very ponderous but with practice we could negotiate the locks.
Our new Antares 30 handles very much the same but with one subtle difference as we had a single engine so to compensate this we had a stern thruster fitted so with a bow thruster and stern thruster fitted we can easily manoeuvre our boat into a very tight mooring, only one does have to be slower. When there is a crosswind.
Great boat but it is a must to have a fly bridge.

Re: Antares 30 questions

Thankyou very much for the reply
Does anyone else have an opinion on this
It is potentially a deal breaker at the moment, I was dead set on an antares 30 but this has worried me
I will be based on the thames, so a lot of my cruising will be done at Thames speeds. 8km/h.
I have been told that at this speed the rudder becomes quite ineffectual. I am hoping it does not
I appreciate that a bow, and possibly stern, thruster will help close quarters manoeuvring but it is more the every day cruising that I want to be OK.
In my head, a boat like this should track in a straight line and not need constant correction.

Thank you all, in advance, for your opinions

Kind Regards

Ian

Re: Antares 30 questions

Let me get this straight:

A sales office not selling you the A30 have said its unsuitable, while no doubt offering you sonething they do have on their books which will be much better.

Hmmmm

Re: Antares 30 questions

I also have an Antares 30 and after having a single stern drive boat and can assure you that the handling is a joy.Saying that I am in the process of having a stern thruster fitted! Its just manouvering is tricky at low speed as there is a substantial amount of windage and also prop wash . If there is a bow and stern thruster which are really just used at low speed manouvering it will be great. Just going forward under engine I find no problem at tic over . Won't the seller let you try it? Its a great boat.

Re: Antares 30 questions

I have now sold my A30 so unbiased and you will not be disappointed. As others have said stern thruster a must but no problem at all at slow speed cruising.

Re: Antares 30 questions

You'll be fine, she's steerable at idle (600rpm) and at 4-5 knots you'll be 800-900rpm.

I have stern thruster fitted for piece of mind berthing or manoeuvring in tight spaces. This was my first boat and I've found she handles quite well.

No, dont get me wrong. They do have stock but were trying to dissuade me anyway.
Thats what got me worried

Re: Antares 30 questions

I imagine that slow speed cruising on the sea rarely has the immediate boundaries of rivers. What might seem fine on the sea, where little wonderings are barely noticed, can be quite tiring on a river. I only mention this as I know that my MF645, which has a little keel already, is often ballasted for river use to increase stability.

It sounds like it might be worth investigating further and at least talk to someone who owns a A30 on a river.

I'm not based on a river, however I did take it the length of the Crinan and Caledonian canals without any problems whatsoever.

Re: Antares 30 questions

Believe me the salesman is talking out of his Ar_e. I have an A30 on Windermere which is all slow, close quarters stuff and the boat handles perfectly at slow speeds. You WILL need a stern thruster though as the boat has a mind of it's own going astern without one. Hope this helps !! Great boats for the money by the way !!

Re: Antares 30 questions

I boat on a river 90% of the time and a lot of 8 knots running and less - No Probs.
Would want to drive the boat in question to check that there is not a problem with that specific boat.

Re: Antares 30 questions

Please any advise on installing air conditioning on my Antares 32

I imagine with the twin engine set up your biggest challenge is going to be finding space for all the equipment.
I would have though you need 12000btu to adequately do the wheel house and forward cabin.
You need to find spade for the chiller/compressor, air handler in the saloon, one in the main cabin. If you want to run the system away from the marina you will also need a large ish gen set.

I guess you might've able to put a lot of stuff in the void below the port seating but it will be quite noisy

Re: Antares 30 questions

Thank you for your reply , it was very difficult to find a space I will send pictures as soon as it's ready and now I have to find the good generator to run it away from the marina

I would ask your closest Beneteau main dealer. I bought my Beneteau through Sunbird Scotland and they are excellent at asking questions, but I am not sure about airconditioning ones. ?⛄
