Beneteau Antares 30 questions

Looks gorgeous, will you share more pics with us? I may consider moving to flybridge in the future and while i'd be looking for something 40ft+, I love flybridge pics p0rn!

Quick update, I have ordered a new Antares30 from Tingdene marina and paid deposit. Expect delivery June/July exact date to be confirmed. Exciting times. Big thanks to Ian Atkinson at Tingdene for allowing me to pull apart his stock boat to see what mods I can do and arranging my custom factory fitted options below.

E95 Raymarine at lower helm
i70 Raymarine repeater at low helm
Volvo turbo boost gauge (to satisfy petrol head brain)
Supply 8mm windlass chain gypsy instead of standard 10mm (I will purchase grade70 chain to allow longer chain for same weight)
Chain counter at lower helm with remote control
No teak being factory fitted on transom, I'm fitting Tekdek or another fake teak to cockpit, transom and possibly flybridge so I wanted it all to match.

Here's what the lower helm should look like.

I've been doing some research on the 240V system, I want to install Sky TV so I need to power a number of 240V devices:

Sky box
Samsung 22" UE22F5400 LED HD 1080p Smart TV: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UE22F5400AKXXU
2-way HDMI splitter (one TV in Salon, one in forward cabin)
4G router for Internet and on-demand TV

So more 240V sockets required and switches required to control power to this lot. I wanted to find some sockets and switches that would look fairly oem and stumbled across these.

http://www.kiravans.co.uk/campervan.../campervan-parts-cbe-12v/cbe-240v-socket.html

They have a range of modular sockets and switches, I was thinking these switches could be used to control power to the above devices and perhaps 240V water heater allowing control from the salon. They are rated 10A, plenty to run 1200W heater through and the TV electronics on separate circuits.

I was going to use this company to engrave the label designations, they say you can supply your own stuff for them to engrave and paint fill the lettering.

Here's a mock up

With thanks to JFM and Markdj I have found the supplier of these Princess cockpit LED's which I like, so these will be going in cockpit and Flybridge.

This is going to be a very swish Antares 30!
I look forward to meeting up with you on the Solent - thanks for all your research my last boat had teckdec and it was easy to clean.
Great boat it will have great presence on the water - very stylist and impressive it will be
Enjoy

Anders, those Cockpit LED's look pretty funky. Would you let me know where they can be sourced ?? I wouldn't mind putting a few in the Cockpit. Also I see in the photos a Cockpit table fitted. I want to fit one but when I measured I didn't have enough room unless you didn't use the Flybridge ladder, although I didn't think of maybe a folding one. If you have any details I would be most grateful. Thanks and I bet you can't wait to pick her up !

This has been the best forum for technical advice we have followed - having met you in person on Saturday on my new Antares 30 i understand why your technical advice has been so valuable - I look forward to visiting your new boat when you have completed your fitting out - it will certainly be an awesome setup of innovational technology.

Thanks for noticing that the engine fire extinguisher still had its safety pin installed which would have stopped the manual remote helm leaver from working!

Since breaking my hip I have not fitted out my boat properly yet - your visit has inspired us to finish properly and set up better identification labelling and safety check lists - we also look forward to reading more!

Hi Anders,

Meant to mention to you about the Rocna, I had to bend the ends outwards of the bow roller slightly so it would self store. Also make sure you have a retaining hoop fitted as well.
Here is a pic of my boat at its home berth at Bobbin Head

It was great to meet you all on Saturday, I picked up some useful advice. I purchased the Almanac on the iPad, the digital edition also has links to live weather forecasts. I'll get a hard copy to leave on the boat though and the skippers handbook.

You'll be welcome aboard when she hits the water, you won't have far to walk either...one pontoon from yours!

Hi Scott,

Nice photo, summers day for you...cold and wet over here :(

I don't follow, do you mean the flares on the end were adjusted?

Anders

Yes Anders,

Pls see pic attached, see how the outer ends of the bow roller are bent out where in your pic they are against the inner sections. This is required so the larger shank of the rockna will clear the sides of the bow roller if it does not come up straight. The small retainer pin is discarded, and a retainer bow fitted as the chain can derail if you are retrieving in a rough sea. I would use cuphead bolts instead of the ones I have used as they are more streamlined than the hex head. The gaps where the roller has been bent look more uniform in real life than in the photo

Thanks for the photo, picture worth a thousand words. I didn't realise an anchor can come up the wrong way until I read the other thread about swivels.

Are you going F1 this weekend?

Quick update, I've had confirmation today that Beneteau have agreed a couple more factory mods (great they have been so accommodating).

1) To install spare cabling for MFD installation on Flybridge (data and power). That will mean no additional holes being drilled if the existing cable glands can't be used.

2) I asked if some additional hand rails could be installed to port and starboard, see pics below. During my visit on board Romans8 a few weeks ago, I found the handrails ran out walking down the side so I was using the windscreen to hold on.

2 very good requests.

Do the builders install spare 'fish' wires/string so you can easily add additional cabling in the future?

When JFM mentioned that Fairline add this feature to ALL the trunking on their boat I thought 'what forward-thinking builders'. Then last week I had to add additional wiring from the helm to the cabin on my Cranchi and what'd ya know.... not only was there string for fishing cables through, but it was in separate/un-wired trunking so there was no other cables to contend with.

+1 Cranchi!

I am shure that Beneteau do as my last boat Beneteau Antares 8.80 has fish cords in the trunking - but I have not looked at Romans 8 trunking lines yet as still unable to bend much due to fractured hip!

I provided an additional MFD at the flybridge on my Antares 30. There was already a power provision under the flybridge 'dash' which I discovered after studying the circuit diagrams in the manual that came with the boat. Getting a cat5 cable to tie into the MFD downstairs was "interesting".Helped having a very slim step son !!!!!. At least it worked correctly straight away. Plug & play! There was no fish wire but we left one in in case of any other additions required!Cat 5 was a original Raymarine part from Coastal Rides at a very good price.

That would help, I didn't spot any when I was pulling apart Tingdene's stock boat but I wasn't specifically looking for them.

With some about 8 weeks I will be stood on my boat in Osmotech going through the fitting list, can't wait!

I think mine's having a Raymarine switch installed to allow Radar, flybridge MFD and other kit to hook in. Pricey bit of kit for what it is, I can an industrial grade network switch for half the price!
