Recently sold own boat and looking to buy either Beneteau 36CC or Jeanneau SO 35 or 37..........haven't been able to view the 35 or the 36CC (my preferred option) locally and am keen to get more info on headroom throughout the boat and usability of owners cabins / berths for 'bigger folk'!! Im 6ft 3 and interested in cruising (not racing) - shorthanded - normally only self and wife.
Any other tips / info on any of these yachts greatly appreciated.

I looked at Beneteau 36CC and Jeaneau SO 35 . Both fine boats. Berths good on both. After 8 seasons in a cc boat we are downsizing and going for the SO35. I suggest you look at both. There is a good example of the 36 cc in west wales and so 35's in Plymouth, Solent and east coast.

I've had a 36CC for 10 years. I still like the boat and she's fine for single or shorthanded cruising. I have seen the headroom figure quoted as 6'5" although I have never needed to test that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif (I used to be 5'11" but I've shrunk now)!
However, I don't really don't think that the aft cabin bunk will be suitable for you. I can only stretch out diagonally and when I'm alone I sleep athwartships.
The dinette conversion is very good if fitted and the foward cabin is OK.
If you're near to Chichester you can have a look if you like. If you search my posts, I responded to another 36CC enquiry recently.

Edit: I ought to point out that the aft bunk might be quoted as six foot odd but your feet go under a moulding at the aft end. If you've got size elevens, it's a bit of a nuisance....

Thankyou very much for your most informative replies...disappointed to hear that the aft cabin sleeping arrangements not as expected.
Appreciate the offer of a viewing very much, however, we are based in N Ireland.
Thanks for website link ...will keep an eye on it.

As a general rule it is difficult for a yacht designer to provide 3 generous cabins with an aft cabin layout at 36'.

Suggest you talk to MoodyNick or as he used to be known as BigNick. He went from a Moody346 to a Moody44 and is at a height where, if one wasn't a coward, one might be tempted to ask what the weather was like up there /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Spent two weeks on a SO 35 on a flotilla a couple of years ago. Headroom was fine for me (but I'm only 6') and the layout down below was spacious and comfortable, with some interesting and ingenious use of space. The rear cabins were definitely cosy; OK for one kid in each, which was what we had, but I wouldn't have liked to spend a night in one of them, with another adult, in the Med.

Our boat had in-mast furling (I know, I know.....), which would certainly help if you were short-handed; effectively you could sail the boat from the cockpit at all times. Performance was not bad, actually, she had a fair turn of speed.

Nice boat.

Hi all - scoured the country and managed to find a 36 CC within travelling distance........not for sale but really hoping that an introduction and some fine wine will allow us a view. Would love a Moody - BUT budget won't allow.... lets hope the CC measures up!
Thanks for info - much appreciated.

I don't know how similar are the 36CC with the 361. I have a Beneteau Oceanis 361, I am 1.88m tall (I think this is 6.3) and ...fit everywhere (both height and beds!!).
