Are there any key problwms to look out for with a 1986 benny 325? I heard the earlier ones had a gelcoat problem and also something about a spline shaft issue.

The spline shaft issue is with 2002/2003 series engines. Likely to have been fixed by now.

A 1986 can be anything. All tech/electronic incl. engines and drivelines must be checked thoroughly regardless of make.
No boat is better than the maintenance and TLC it has received and 25+ years expectedly will have taken it's toll.
I viewed a Princess 35 (again, make and model doesn't mean much) from 1986.
'Original condition' appeared to mean 'did'nt do anything to it since new' and 'never ever needed repair' meant 'neglect of maintenance, up for new turbos + a bunch of other parts'

I assume you're talking about a First 325?
If so, Bene did have a bad batch of resin which was about 1985/86 which meant the the boats suffered from blisters. If it was a problem, it would have manifested itself by now, and been scraped and epoxied.
Otherwise a great boat with good pace and comfy accommodation.
We had a 345 for 5 years, and loved it to bits.
