Hello I want to fit a bigger engine in my 620 as I find the Volvo 78hp to slow ! And can't find a Volvo 105hp anywhere , Has anyone fitted a bigger engine in one if so what did you go for ?

Sell it and get an outboard version
The power to weight ratio will annul a significant speed increase plus an outboard type will give you more room in the cockpit
Plus the cost I think would be a bit prohibitive to change engines

Ha ha if only it was that easy I live in guernsey and there are not many 620 here ! I love the size of it , just a bit more speed would be great !!!!!

So you have the TMD22 @78hp? Your engine is a rebadged Perkins Prima M80 and all spares for it can be obtained from perkins dealers. The base engine was used for years in Austin montego, Sherpa vans etc.

I think you could upgrade the engine to the TAMD22 @ 105hp but not sure about how economical this would be. Different pistons and cams for certain, also the 'A' in TAMD stands for aftercooled, so this means Volvo specific parts. It would be a project.

Good thread here: http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?455473-Volvo-TAMD22-and-Perkins-Prima-M80T&highlight=tamd22

Best option is a well maintained bolt in replacement TAMD22 but they're probably not that commonly available. That way you could sell your engine to offset the cost.

Another consideration is the prop, would that need to be changed? Its not going to be a cheap process basically.
