If you don’t have to do those you die early. One thing I have developed in my old age is a deepening dislike of being told what to do; and especially of being told what's good for me.
I don't have to fully occupy my time, I don't have to do anything for the community, I don't have to exercise, I don't have to have a hobby, I dont have to make new friendships, I don't have to eat healthily, I don't have to drink less, .............
It's my retirement, I earned it, and I'll damn well please myself what I do with it!

I find a daily dose of cod liver oil helps ease the pain.Being retired; painful
How early is early? If you don’t have to do those you die early.
What time do you normally wake up?How early is early?
I get up with the lark in the morning and my heart is [not] full of glee...What time do you normally wake up?
... or Carpe Diem as they say.I had a pretty boring career and did not rise in the ranks but was just a worker bee. I did not enjoy my work but could not change it.
My ‘social life’ is more virtual than real; I participate in classic car and motorbike forums to name a couple and enjoy talking virtually and do meet real people from the forums at times which is a bonus.
Now retired slightly early and just getting by, I am having to work hard at filling the day. My better half still works so days out together will have to wait.
Just launched and enjoying gentle day day sails; very little maintenance needed.
Thinking of taking up a more athletic sport (from my youth preferably) within some club environment, but pickings are slim.
I should not have started this thread with what now appears to be a negative or a complaint.
I am grateful to have been able to retire and have read all replies and am considering options.
Sailors, enjoy the wind and waves whilst we can.
Ive seen one called that this year...somewhere... or Carpe Diem as they say.
Now, that would make a good boat name. I wonder if anyone has thought of it?
Only one? It's quite a popular name. I've seen a few in France.Ive seen one called that this year...somewhere
I’ll be sailing ‘Quest’ in Cowes week. Anotyer common name, but ours is going to have a Holy Grail on the transom.Only one? It's quite a popular. I've seen a few in France.
Reminds me of Eric Hiscock's tale of naming his first yacht; told in his first book.
After he bought her, he renamed her and had an old sign-writer come and paint the new name.
"What's it to be?" asked the sign-writer.
"Wanderer." said Hiscock proudly.
"Not another one!" said the sign-writer.
Name them! We need to know! The post shows people like talking, not always about boats. I am shocked the mods have not withdrawn it . It seems that there are quite a few older guys on here who need to be controlled by regulation .
I think people may have overlooked my jest. Carpe Diem is the nautical version of Mon Repos or Dunromin.Ive seen one called that this year...somewhere
