Being retired; painful

On the voluntary side I've been getting a lot of satisfaction from driving people even older and more infirm than me to medical appointments - we're in the boondocks so limited public transport and 45 miles to our 'local' major hospital.
Alternatively, if this is just to fill in time while your good lady's out at work, you could get yourself a daytime mistress.

Not sure how I found time to work!
Apart from my sailing, curtailed by jobs from SWMBO and volunteering with sailing charities, there appears little more time for my sailing than when working. This summer may be the exception! šŸ˜€šŸ˜ƒ
The rest of the time is walking and cycling with gardening under duress.

Attitude? Are you waiting for something to come to you?
I don't think it matters what you do; it's doing it that is important.

Why not discuss with your wife things that you have never considered. Make a list and choose some for each week. Some active, some social, some at your desk problem solving. Mix and match but keep trying things. After a while that will become the normal. And one or more will become your new life šŸ™‚

Or it may not. Life is a bit uncertain; is that what makes it fun?

Just retired this year
Apart from boating on south coast, charitable works at National Trust ( just completing interview and training took5 hours and I haven’t even served in house yet) plus any charitable bodies you belong to like Table, masons, menin sheds etc
And doing diy for children’s property plus property rental portfolio management take up time. Add going to theatre and travel and plenty of items on to do list still

I think when you retire , when you are in work you are respected have a focus and believe people need you .once retired you are lost , just a nobody, so when you wake up go in the bathroom , look in the mirror and you see the only guy you are looking at (is the only guy who can make life work) . You need to wake up , go and meet up with old friends , family ffs, ONE LIFE.

Seastoke, why don’t you go visit Cerebus…. I can’t begin to tell you how much better off I felt after you left

So something expensive, that risks divorce and - frankly, at your age - probably needs a bit of work doing? Why not just buy another boat?

One thing the wife hates…but I highly recommend…is to start the morning with a rant !
The subjects are up to you…global politics…local issues…etc.
Repetition is key…the wife knows where all my rants are going before they get out of my mouth.
The audience is the tv set, the dog…but mostly…yes you’ve guessed it…

When I get to that point it means I am 'stressed ' and need distracting, a definate sign that some R & R is required on the boat.
