Austerity measures, as usual the dear old down trodden British motorist foots the bill..............again!

Same shit down here on the south coast, my local beach front was Pay for during peak months with winter parking free,Oct-March, now all year round, then to rub salt in, last year they burnt off the markings of a few free parking spaces (further from the beach) and painted double yellows there instead, They just can't stop themselves.

Thanks Glyn, it does look like a possible loophole but probably not worth risking.

We've decided to book a couple of nights at http://riversidecamping.co.uk/ - we've stayed before and it's only a couple of miles up the road from the venue, so within taxi range, may as well add to the coffers of local businesses while we're there. :encouragement:

A decent site. The cafe does a decent coffee. The rest is a little expensive though.

As for taxis you might get lucky and get one that quoted for a job and then unlucky in one who uses the meter. About ten years ago I was normally quoted £10 for a run to Llanrug. ( made four pints expensive pints) The metered one said £13 and I walked the last 400m
 
Sorry about that guys, not something I was expecting. They're just shooting themselves in the foot trying to ban Motorhomes. FWIW I generally ignore "No overnight camping" signs as it is hard to prove whether you are in or not, how long you were in & "overnight" is never defined. But I understand that it's not something everyone would want to do. Is May sorted out as well?

There should be a reference to a "Traffic Regulation Order" explaining what the restrictions are & there should be specific problems they are trying to overcome. But there seldom are & magistrates don't always apply the law, they just do what the council ask them to. I'm hoping to go down & make some enquiries myself early next week & will report back.

I'm sure we will be able to sort out some lifts. You can park on the Slate Quay all day for about a fiver & boat owners use their vans overnight in the winter when fitting out, but we also pay a grand a year for our moorings!
 
I'm sure it's not your fault, it's probably Kwackers, isn't he the earl of Kunarvun or something?
I think May is planning to stay on the same site as us, can't confirm because her inbox is full :rolleyes: ;)
 
Good idea..
In France many marinas accommodate motor homes.
1 French sometimes keep small boats in the marinas and use motorhomes to access them for weekends.
2 The facilities required are similar.
3 Marina carparks are normally boat parks in winter, so empty in summer.
4 Good business for marina shops etc..
Mind you the whole way they deal with motor homes in France is far better than the UK, but there are far more of them I suppose.

We are currently intending to stay at the campsite with Cozzykim but the Marina parking would be great

We are 8.4m long though which may be a problem

Steve you quite often see MHs parked up beside the Caernarfon Sailing Club for overnight. Mark might let a couple stay inside the removeable bollards. Worth an ask ?
Mark has asked for confirmation of boat names length,beam and draft. Will pm the individuals involved.

Bar Buoy position update

We tried a variation on the route over the bar at the weekend.

We took a line directly from C4 (the red channel marker adjacent to the Wreck) to the beacon at Pilots Cove.

Plenty of water 2 and a half hours before high tide.

Return trip in dense fog proved it!

Don't wander too far off this course as the Wreck is close by !

CHT are planning to resurvey and reposition buoys but this is not usual before the May bank holiday?

Currently some of the marks seaward of C4 were in breaking water at low tide when viewed in a flat calm last Saturday PM.

Just a little taster from last weekend. Beacon and wreck visible! Oh and most of Snowdonia.

I am sure there were a lot of Motor homes parked up on the side of the road going out of Caernarfon on the other side of the footbridge. Might be a reasonable free alternative. Good views of castle and down Strait.
 
You can park on the Sarn Helen road as Tsb240 says, it is very quiet at night but still a public road and the footbridge closes to walkers at 11pm. I have also seen vans parked up by the bowling green in the park. People have also overnighted outside the harbour office, but usually just a one night flyer rather than a 48hr stop. I'm on site now and will ask tomorrow.
 
OK, Mark (Viccy Dock "Docmeister") wasn't available, but I spoke to Brian & he asked me to put in a written request, which I have done. I will update when I hear further, but it seems likely that 2 vans could be accommodated for a night or two on the Berth-holders' car park by the dock against the sea wall.

If that turns out to be the case, it is a perfect spot. It's free, good views, quiet spot, secure & right on the doorstep of the marina, the RWYC clubhouse & still close to the town & Morrisons supermarket. The Slate Quay sadly is a no-go due to Site owners pressurising the Council into forbidding overnighters there.
