Been to See Riverdance but Not allowed Near

Nothing wrong with being racist.I just think your being a twat.

As do I but I'm on a good behaviour request so I'm keeping quiet

Whoops , did I say that out loud ?

I've been on the beach. Only 1 poor sod in bright clothing to keep the thieving hoardes of Cleveleys at bay lol.
Anyway we were allowed close enough to see what there was to see.
Getting back to the ship....she's obviously shifted position on the last tide so may not be that difficult to pull out after all.

"so suddenly volunteer coastguards are 'pillocks in peaked caps' are we?"

No, and that's a distortion of what I wrote. We all encounter the phenomenon: give someone a bit of authority, and most adopt it with good grace; others with officiousness. And I don't care how well-meaning they might be if they're denying my free movement without sound and legal cause. If someone's telling us we must do something, they ought to be able and prepared to say on what authority that's done. What liberties we have left matter more than hurt feelings. That said, I can well understand that your colleagues were operating in difficult circumstances and under a fair bit of stress.
Equally, whilst I wholeheartedly applaud the work volunteers do in many fields of life, I can see no rational reason for expecting different standards from them in this respect. They volunteered, after all.
Agree wholeheartedly about the biccies, though.

Tried it again and it worked for me. Click on the 4 under the initial picture.

According to my plotter, her bridge is making an angle of 48 deg with the horizon.

I laughed out loud at Rory Bremner on the Andrew Marr programme this morning when he mentioned that Liverpool is now the European City of Culture. Therefore, 'If you find your car wheels missing, it will probably be blocked up on copies of the Collected Works of Shakespeare'.

Hmm, I posted that in The Lounge at the beginning of January.

When SOSREP says piss off that means "PISS OFF". He has the power impose an exclusion zone which does not allow you to walk on the beach. There is a prison sentence up for grabs if you want to press your "right to walk on the beach".

[/ QUOTE ]

And with that you highlight the problems we face in this country with constant and unrelenting 'power drift'.

Too many people arbitrarily being given powers, or think they have powers, to tell us what can or cannot do and their subsequent enthusiasm to enforce their perceived power.

But where were they all when Napoli was being systematically looted. Don't recall any coastguards then accosting members of the public taking BMW bikes and other such "worthless" items.

One wonders why there was so much less dedication to duty there.

[/ QUOTE ]

When the containers from Napoli came ashore there was a lot of confusion. The Police did not know their powers, The Receiver of Wreck had not grasped her situation in a major wreck, the Coastguard were not fully briefed - it was a mistake born of ignorance, the powers were there but no one knew they had them until too late.

Now they know, and now they are moving in for the kill on any scouser who nicks a single chocolate biscuit.

Which is a good thing really.

More 'Power drift'.

The police did not have any 'powers' over the Napoli.

It was a wreck and salvage laws were put in place to enable the public to remove salvage to 'a place of safety', with a requirement that they notify the Receiver of Wrecks within the time laid down.

The previous posters says "when Napoli was being systematically looted." The Napoli was not looted, as no one went on board. The cargo was lawfully removed from the beach and the contravention only occurred if the salver did not inform the RoW.

I spent the morning having this massive opperation in Blackpools hospital. After coming round from the anasthetic , I shook my head a bit, had a nice cup of tea and toast. They then turfed me out.

So me and Debs went to have a look at Riverdancer. It does not seem to have gone much worse, than the extra leaning of yesterday.

Whilst I was having the Opp on my ear, I think they must have had a quiet word with Debs. She's noe speaking with a much clearer voice. Not chunnering and whispering as before. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Perhaps this is why they need an exclusion zone....

Beach morons

[/ QUOTE ]

I am sure they do need an exclusion zone, but manned by the police who can enforce it and not by Coast Guards sitting in a car with blue lights flashing.

All that does is enforce the erroneous idea that the MCA is an 'force', which it isn't.

I think it is wrong to use personnel and agencies on tasks for which they have no legal remit and paints them in the wrong public light. Coast Guards rescue and co-ordinate rescues and other nice things, they tell people "Have a care, that is dangerous,' they do not tell members of the public to "Piss off".

savageseadog says he was told to "Clear off" by the coast guard and Woodentop then says something about 'prison'. MCA should be allowed to create an exclusion zone, but they don't have the power to enforce it, that is the police's job, and allowing a coast guard to threaten people with sanctions is beyond their remit.

Under section 100A and 100B of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, the Secretary of State for Transport has power to create a temporary exclusion zone round a wreck. The effect (broadly) of such an exclusion zone is to make it a criminal offence for anyone to navigate his ship within that zone. (see section 100B)

Therefore one is perfectly entitled to walk along the beach at any distance from the wrecked vessel. Any attempt by either the coastguard or the police to prevent such access is unlawful.

Approaching the wreck by sea in a ship will attract a potential fine of £50,000 or two years inside.

Hope this helps.

The latest is. Some guy has found a life bouy on the beach, and put it on ebay for £20 quid. The police are now hunting him down, supported by the council. There going to throw the whole wieght of the law at him.
