Tall Ships Races 2017 made a stop in Turku, which was absolutely packed during the event. The banks of River Aura were filled with these beautiful ships and as the weather co-operated for a change, no less than half a million people visited the site during the four day event.
I managed to get a berth just a couple of hundreds of meters from the river, which was made a no-go zone for leisure boats. One morning I got up early and packed all my gear into the dinghy with a plan to cross the estuary and make a landing just outside of the exclusion zone.
I didn't get very far dressed in dark clothes, driving a (black) dinghy full of pointy gear, before being politely directed elsewhere by a RIB patrolling the mouth of the river...
Anyway, got there in the end and was glad to be the early, before the crowds arrived, to witness the morning routines aboard the ships.
I got some drone footage when they were leaving, but that's still a bit of WIP.
