Beaucette marina - Guernsey

Thinking of Beaucette instead of SPP this year. Is it suitable for 43' sailing boat - understand the entrance is narrow and twisty

Shouldn't be a problem, I'd go in at high water and without too much sea running. It looks to be tighter than it is, but you do have a sharp turn to port as you get through the entrance. It's a lovely place with a great restaurant.

+1 but watch it with any strong East in the Wind. Just be prepared and have the lines and fenders out early before you are committed, you'll have time to cool off when you get round the corner!!

There's plenty of room and the entrance channel is well marked and foolproof. If the Sun's low in the West it can get in your eyes a bit. (This opinion based on only two visits.)

My Mad Irish friend was there a couple of weeks ago and he got in. Considering that this followed several hours of him sailing around Sark thinking it was Guernsey this was quite an achievement.

I was there a long time ago and it does look pretty forbidding but they have now painted the huge rocks at the entrance in white which should help a little.

Good luck!

It is great for peace and quiet, but a hike from the bus stop, and the bus times limit evening trips to SPP unless you taxi back.

Last time I was there the restaurant was closed up. It would be good to hear if it had reopened again.......

I was told not to bother with this marina as surrounding area is commercial & to go to centre of st Peter Port
Is that true??
Never looked ---but st pp is great once inside

You must be mixing it up with St Sampsons. Beaucette could not be more rural.

That was no doubt 2+ years ago, now not only open but thriving, often fully booked.

We like SPP but inside we are limited by draught and size and the visiting French boats who don't worry about a little bit of dogum car berthing. We end up berthing in outer harbour with and need to pump up dinghy as Taxi service is totally unreliable.

IMHO Harbour master should take over taxi service as they are around 24hrs - it works well at the Folly Inn!

The 24 hr bleep "its safe to cross now!" from the local crossing can be anoying plus the boy racers along the sea front.

You will be fine

They have boats going in and out upwards of 60 feet.

Great Marina - say Hi to Ricky who runs the place. Nice restaurant and if you fancy a walk along the cliff tops then go to The Beach House - they do the best Club Sandwich with Lobster ever.

We use this place at least twice a year and love it

If you radio ahead they will send the launch out to escort you in.....a great wee place, I remember the days when it was still a quarry, I have friends that live only 500 meters away, lovely quiet part of Guernsey and great place to wander the lanes. A 10 minute walk will take you to the Dolphin Stores and the bus stop into SPP.
The visitors berth is on the port side after you enter, if you look on the webcam below that is in the corner top right...enjoy :-)

Webcam here.......

We expect to be there circa 20th July. Would you recommend phoning ahead to reserve visitors berth?

It's always good to call ahead to let them know you're coming. They may or may not reserve a berth, but more than likely they will. V helpful. As on my webpage, call when inbound, either by the Petite Canupe SCM or the Fairway buoy.

Ricky is the marina manager. And, as you'll also see from my website, the restaurant there is now really good. But do book - it's v popular.

All the best.

Hi everyone - happy new cruising year to you.

Beaucette has a new website (http://www.beaucettemarina.com/) which I think answers all the above qns. And Beaucette even has hose pipes whereas they've all gone from St Peter Port for H&S reasons....

If you find you have a qn which isn't answered by the new website do ask me.

Lin and I live on Play d'eau in the marina and it's always good to welcome forumites. We are immediately below the restaurant.
