I suppose if it all hangs together for the remaining 7000 miles we'll probably see Ms Macarthur transformed into Day Melon in the Queens Birthday Honours. The BBC awards don't happen until December though so I guess thats a long time to be in a holding pattern for the Sports Personality of the Year Award. Perhaps she'd better go round again - this would ensure that she finished a bit later on in the year and may just be enough for people to retain the memory long enough to vote. Then again - maybe she'd better keep going until the Lions Tour and any Cricket has been finished?

I hate that poxy program - they choose people who are good at sport - but who often have a very very boring personality. I think Daley thompson should have won an Irritating Tit Of The Century award, Brian Clough the Big Gob But Good award, and the shd've been a team award for Stockport football club who booked a tour of Italy, everyone thought they meant Stockport County and put up teams accordingly, so the valiant sunday leaguers got thrashed by margins as high as 36-nil. They still had a laugh, and that's a far more interesting personality I reckon.

"Sports" and "Personality" should never really be together in the same sentence. Why on earth should the BEEB think that just because someone is good at whatever sport, they have a "personality". They should really invent a name that reflects the contents of the programme, and I've just realised that I've left the door open for all sorts of funnies. New name for the programme anyone ???

Would be much better deserved than Kelly Holmes, not to decry KH achievements.

I have such admiration for Ellen, though really don't know why/how she puts hereself through it. I wishh I had a quarter of her grit and determination.

Personalities Competiton - how it should be

erm, well i watched bits of it this last year but yet again, no personalities.

Really, if they had loads of personalities, there'd be a "clash" of them, wouldn't there? Course there would. Like erm, well here, sometimes - except *competitive* personalities all under scrutiny.

I'd like to see strongly held views, laughter competiton, shaggy dog story knockouts, the amusing anecdote league, quick-fire jokes about a given subject, high-speed hidden camera chatting up of the opposite sex, and final tiebreaker being judged on how weasly they've been at their own sport. EG - does Ellen sceretly pretend it's a 70 footer instead of a 75 footer sometimes, hm? Beckam and all footy types would be right out UNLESS if a memebr of the audience deadlegs them they actually do need taking to hospital, which i bet they don't.

See? Much more interesting program anyway.

Much as as admire Ellen for what she is doing and has done in the past. And I am a huge fan. I spend so much time checking out her website that my wife says I pay more attention to Ellen than I do to her. (Actually I pay more attention to Mike Golding at the moment than SWMBO). If I was to stick by the comments about the award being for "personality" then Ellen would probably not be first choice.
Sorry

Re: Hurrah for stingo! - just inthe nick of time...

As long as I have no idea who DH might be, then I can't be petrified of her. Let's hope my ignorance remains intact.

Who was it that said that true happiness is good health and a bad memory?
