Did anyone catch Sea Rescue on Bravo this evening? US Coastguard rescue operations. Watching the first one, where they near enough failed to get the guy from the boat, and lost their 'litter' (stretcher to you and me) in the water, I am eternally grateful that our rescues comes from people who are competent.

Are you suggesting by that that the USCG are incompetent.......maybe you should try it in those coditions when the guy on the fishing boat decides to let the hiline go!!!!!!!
Think you will find the fisherman was at fault for not understanding what to do with the hiline........would you?????
No, I'm not suggesting they are genrally incompetent, but they were on that programme. I used to work with the USCG on SAR exercises etc in the Caribbean - and they were great before 9/11. After that they were moved into TSA and their priorities changed. They are now more to do with coastal security than rescue and thus their training has suffered. As it also showed in the programme, they are also committed to war zone stuff in the Middle East - and none of this makes them more competent at SAR off the US coast. I think the fact that our SAR assets are purely that - and not a military service - makes them that much more effective at what they do.
