Hi, Does anyone know where to get these old style plastic body fuses, with the fuse molded around the tips? You used to see them in 70's cars. Even having trouble finding any at the scrap dealers. Many thanks.
If i had that type of fuse on my boat I would change them for a different type, a car I used to have used them and they were allways causing trouble.
The metal used vairied with the current rating and they tended to suffer from corrosion at the contact point with the fuse holder
I agree with Gibbo. I had enough grief with those things on my mini in the 70's. No way would I let them near my boat.
I want to redo my switch & fuse panel, which has plastic bayonet fuse holders that take glass fuses, but not enough of them. When I do, if I can get them cheaply enough, I'll use circuit breakers (have to be 12v DC rated, not mains!). If not I'll go for blade-type fuses. Apart from a seriously senior moment ( /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif), I've never had a fuse blow on the boat, so I suspect a couple of fuse boxes from the Range will do nicely, plus a selection of spare fuses for those momentary lapses into senility.
Really depends where these are sited. I havent had any trouble with any of mine over the 18 years I have had my boat. I will admit that I am slowly changing them for more modern types.
Same as Talbot, no problems in 20 years. Of course I keep them clean with a quick twist once a year and a squirt of WD40. No plans to change perfectly good equipment.
Electrics need maintenance too!
Came as standard in my main fuse panel. Don't like them much and use blades for subsequently fitted equipment but they do have the advantage of easily spotting a blown fuse which I have not always had with blades, if it "goes" near one end it may not be visible without pullling the thing.
