Bayliner dual station control woes

I've got a Bayliner 3052 flybridge in Torrevieja. When I bought it, it had been re-engined with 2 new Mercruiser 4.3litre EFIs with 5 hours use.
Problem was, only the flybridge engine controls were connected. The engineers said that the previous owner wanted this arrangement to keep costs down.
As part of the sale, I insisted on the saloon controls being connected. This has never worked properly and the people who did the work are a joke.
Last year, one of the flybridge controls started to get stiff and notchy which isn't good when you are coming in to a stern-to berth.
I've tried every mechanic I can in the area. None of them has been able to successfully connect up both stations.
The latest is that "these engines do not support dual stations". Utter rubbish, of course as there must be hundreds of these fitted around the world.
Is any esteemed forum member able to say how the dual station arrangement works on the Mercruiser 4.3 EFI engines? Should they have cables from both stations to the engines, or should the Flybridge controls go to the saloon station?
It's just so hard to get anyone to do better than a p*ss poor job when you are 1500 miles away.

It not a new problem so here are some basics on mechanical setups
There are two methods US single function ie one lever doe one thing throttle or gear selection ie series top to cabin to engine
or parallel cable from top control to engine and cabin to engine these all mean that you drag the non operating control and have the danger of unwanted interference
European system uses single lever ie one lever does gear and throttle
Cables go from both controls to Dual Station unit although throttle is often set up as us parallel method
The European method is totally dependent on being set up correctly but has the advantage of using dual function controls particularly useful for people with only two hands
Single function controls allow operating with gear selection and throttle slightly open
Have a look at what you have and let us know

Flybridge Control

It has dual control on the flybridge and separate throttle/gear controls in the saloon.
There were four cables but someone has cut two of them with an angle grinder - a very professional job?.
What do I need to get (ideally) nice smooth control from both stations?

W hat you are describing will definitely not work on the gear side as it is a hybrid (barstardised )concoction you would need. To replace the lower controls with single lever units along with ds units and buy the low friction version cables
It will cost you to do this and you may decide to try and persevere with just the top controls but from a safety point of view disconnect the lower throttle cables
Or you might approach the seller to have it sorted

Is there any consensus as to whether Elessar's or Kashurst's suggestions would work with my "mixed" control set up?

The vetus system should work and removes all the cables except perhaps one to each drive assuming that you have drive but would be a high cost solution
The Morse DS UNITS would probably work but with drawbacks and would require the throttles be pull to open and the levers placed in slow ahead and preferably held there while operating top controls
this might be a least expensive compromise if it can be made to work
