Bayesian Interim Report

It may be just me but I found that YouTube clip distasteful (people perished).

Nothing to see really, just someone talking over a bit of film taken from a distance.

Official reports may be one thing (informative perhaps).

This clip was not to my taste; that could just be me of course; we are all different.
I think that is a bit unfair.
This is a very big deal for the superyacht industry - and they will be keen to learn any lessons asap.
The poster of that video has been providing good factual information on the tragedy from the outset, in an objective fashion and not sensationalising. The lift is of interest to many in the industry and wider.
Done in a suitably serious manner.

Like @dunedin I think that's a bit harsh, there's no sensationalism in this report, as there hasn't been in anything from this channel on the subject. It's only natural that people should be interested in the raising; it's a big deal.

I appreciate your opinion.

Hope your paint job of your boat is going well; took me two years to paint (spray) my first cruiser to perfection.

You may be correct that I was unfair. I do not know to be honest.

I did not watch the whole video.

I found the repetition of the same visuals lazy (for want of better phraseology) and very little information offered.

I find the deaths of people at sea saddening and some YouTubers … well … I will not say any more.

It is the first YouTube clip I have watched.

I did not know the maker has been providing info from the outset.

My apologies to them and all others.

I certainly hope lessons are learned if possible.

No problem. That particular poster provided a lot of objective information on the technical aspects early on, and helped quash some of the oddball speculation. Superyachts seem to be his specialist topic.
Will be interesting to see the eventual full MAIB report - that will be some time away, but lifting the wreck was a prerequisite for the next stage of investigation.
Suspect there will be a lot of interest in the keel position whn finally lifted clear of the water, though clearly this could have changed since the initial accident.

The team at The Yacht Report (formerly eSysman SuperYachts) are all serving or ex-maritime professionals. Our host himself has over 2 decades in the maritime industry working on various SuperYachts of all sizes including some of the largest in the world.

The BBC used his footage (without him talking). He’s been out there for a few weeks as a “citizen journalist” reporting on progress with the recovery so that he would be the person with the live footage. Perhaps that’s crass, because he is effectively monetising the tragedy but he’s doing a job that traditional journalists have got bored with and their editors found new tragedies for them to chase. Journalists, whilst sometimes being scum, play an important role in society that helps to keep things transparent. Eg, without his reporting it would be very easy to think the mast had snapped when inevitably pictures reach the media - but he’s helped everyone understand the mast was cut off as part of the salvage. He also reported the death of one of the divers, something which mainstream media didn’t get too bothered about.

I appreciate his calm delivery and excellent balanced explanations of the facts, standards and legislation. Particularly when discussing aspects of some of the knee jerk statements made and issued by lawyers and designers.
It's rightly emotive and important that as much as possible can be learnt.

I haven’t and don’t intend to watch that video. But I agree with your sentiments.

I’m sure that a thorough investigation is important to many who are directly connected with the individuals who sadly died or with the safety and construction of similar vessels.

None of whom will be getting their information from amateur Poirots with a YT account who are principally feeding the imaginations of rubberneckers.

The video (and the commentary) say nothing about the actual capsize event. It is just a factual account of the raising of the hull.

There are no bodies in it.
Nevertheless, it’s where they died.

Why does anyone not directly involved need to film or watch it?

Should we all take a packed lunch and watch the emergency services clearing up after a motorway pile up?

Is this really what we’ve become?

People are and always have been naturally curious, if you ever pass a motorway accident more people will slow down to see what happened and or the extent of the damage, it's human nature. It's just easier now with technology, are you telling us that if you were there yesterday you wouldn't have cast a glance at the proceedings?
I think there is a question to be had about someone monetising this after all the guy in question is not doing as a pubic information exercise, I think it says more about him than those that are watching it.

Perhaps we could say the same thing about the TV coverage of Englands cricketers. 😁

Well, as you suspected, I do find myself watching an ongoing train wreck in Leeds atm…
