We are considering buying a new Bavaria 33 and would appreciate any comments from owners regarding their ownership experiences or information as to where to find any reviews.
I'm sorry I can't help with comments on the Bavaria 33 as I haven't owned or sailed one or indeed any Bavarias. The problem on the forums however is that it has become the in thing to bait Bavarias and Bavaria owners so those that could answer are often reluctant to do so against the barrage of snooty snobby comments that will undoubtedly arise.
Best advice is to persevere, re-post it on Scuttlebutt and discard any of the sniping mine is better than yours comments, they are fairly obvious, even predictable, but you will hopefully get an informed poster eventually willing to stick his head above the parapet.
I don't own a Bavaria, but I can see the attraction of having a brand new boat at an affordable price. A word of caution however. Add up the cost of all the extras you will need, particularly if you have not owned a boat before. It will be a very long list, and many of the things on it will come with a second hand boat. Once you have totalled all the costs, take a good look at the second hand market. I went through this exercise before I bought my boat, and was originally pricing the Bavaria 38, which was top end of what I wanted to spend, although I really wanted something a little bigger.
I ended up buying a 45 foot boat, very well equipped, for far less than the new Bavaria would have cost me.
Hello Wayne
Thanks for your reply
We currently own a westerly centaur and keep her at Hullbridge which is on the river crouch in essex. We sail locally and around the east coast at weekends during the season and occasionally whenever possible for longer periods. We would like to move up to the next level and the bavaria seems to tick most of our boxes while still just being within budget. Only concerns are the deep keel (1.95) and some unsupported negative comments regarding quality, ie bow roller fixing to deck and gel coat problems.

I would support your choice. Apart from minor niggles you will have with any new boat purchase they are fantastic value for money. Also you can have the shallow tandem keel as an option (I think 1.4m). You should check out the Bavaria web site - also the Bavaria owners site and get feedback from other owners.
Also you should expect a good discount especially if you price in France and with the strong Euro and smaller delivery cost this represents a large saving. Typical discount can be between 6 & 8%.
Another option in France is to use the special leasing scheme and pay only 10% vat. Especially attractive where you have a boat to sell as you can invest the proceeds and drawn down over the lease period. (The discount price applies to the lease as well.) Hope this helps.
