Slipway
Forest of Dean District Council will retain ownership of Beachley Slipway following concerns from local people that they will lose the access to it they have enjoyed for decades.

The council’s cabinet made the decision when they met yesterday evening.

A number of parties who use the slipway and local residents were worried they may be charged to use the slipway if it was leased to another party.

Cllr Brian Robinson, Deputy Leader of the council and cabinet member for Efficient Council and Planning Policy said: “We made this decision as a result of the community’s concerns that residents would no longer have free access to use the slipway if it was leased to someone else.

“People who use the slipway feel it is an important asset for the community and we are very pleased to be able to make this decision and keep it open for public use.”

The slipway will now remain in the ownership and control of the council.

Thanks to all who supported the petitions.

Got to be good news, nice to know that the powers that be sometimes listen to those little people that really do know better

The next issue will be where will the guys who were after the site go next? I understand that they have been snooping around "Slime Road" which again will certainly cause another fight! My view is if they have to have access to the river why not look at the area around Black rock by the new Severn Crossing. This will pass the buck to the Monmouth shire council and the Welsh Assembly!

You might like to have a look at the following message posted on YM forum:

"I've said it a few times and no apologies for repeating it;

In a very short time - weeks or months from NOW Wednesday 26th October 2011 - it will be virtually impossible to lay new swinging moorings, as this counts as 'depositing items on the seabed'.

If you know of a derelict mooring, for Christ's sake get it marked properly as a matter of urgency, as an investment or just an aid to future generations, they will not look kindly on us for losing the moorings of those before us !

If you think I'm joking, ask anyone in what I regard as the UK's heart of sailing, Falmouth; they have suddenly been told they cannot race in their traditional areas, cannot anchor committee boats, and cannot even enter to sail through an area off St Mawes, the most busy in-harbour spot !

PLEASE mark those moorings or lose them forever !!! "

Will this affect CDYC?

When we aquired our "Rights" we allowed for extra moorings and logged them, However I think as we do not have any moorings on the bed, the mooring chains are staked between MWN and MWHS, in
other words up the bank!
With all these threats around the country is it because the bodies are under threat from the "Cuts"?
