Is it usual to have the isolating switch wired to isolate the battery from charge (e.g. from shore power) as well as load?

It makes sense to wire shorepower chargers, solar chargers and wind chargers directly to the batteries so that they can be charged without having to leave the engine and domestic systems powered up.

Straight to the battery or to the battery terminal of the isolator switch, whichever is most convenient. Remember to fit a fuse close to the battery/switch.

OK ... I have old boat with old systems.

My 12v system is through the old style 3 way switch ...

The shore-power setup comes into a breaker box and then sockets round the boat (EU and UK).

I have two tiny auto maintenance Chargers plugged into mains socket and each one direct to a battery. I have option to plug in higher rate charger if needed.

As post #3 says - "without having to leave the engine and domestic systems powered up ".

Got a reason you cannot just answer with the full words instead of wanting to send me on a Google search ?

I work in a market that is so full of abbreviations that TBH - I get fed up with it ......
I live on a 40ft boat with 2 children under 10. I do my best to be patient with them, but I have little left for adults' questions that could be easily answered with a quick google search. PV is short for PhotoVoltaic (panels); strictly, "solar panels" are things that heat water using the sun.

Why did you waste time setting up a link that in fact when I typed in the words failed to show anything ...

It would have been quicker and more friendly to have just typed "PhotoVoltaic" .....

Given your reaction and style of reply .. I now know what to expect .......

Just so you are aware :

PV in my world and business is Pressure Vacuum ... as in auto valves on cargo tanks to vent ... but I don't link a Google for you to get that ...

Yes and no.

I put them in for large 3000watt inverter chargers but don't bother for smaller just a fuse close to the battery.
