I need 2 new domestic batteries, the battery boc holds 3 batteries at 170mm wide and 345 mm long, the 2 existing domestic ones are type 656 140Ah 850 and the cranking one is also type 656 but 126 Ah 840

I'm a battery ignoramus, whats the best reasonably priced batteries to fit the space and be at least as good as what's there?

Really appreciate any help as I've struggled through various online battery sites over the last couple of hours and all I've come up with is an Alphaline XL130.

The Tayna batteries website allows you to search by size. Bought my last leisure battery from them. Size was important if not critical

Battery megastore often suggested for best price

Went through all this early this year.

Discovered that most shops stock a budget range which are guaranteed for two years and I expect will last far longer. When looking carefully ALL the cases are identical in their minute features - only the names/branding is different (same Chinese factory?).

Batteries supplied in 2005 by jeanneau were still OK in 2013 but boat was kept in Marina and I suspect charge retention would be suspect so before taking 1 month off this summer I looked into 4 new batteries 110Ah.

From advice received found leisure batteries are OK but those places that stocked an equivalent cranking battery (same size case and 110Ah rating) aways recommend buying 1 cranking battery for engine plus 3 leisure batteries. All original Jeanneau batteries were the same type (IIRC Barton)!

Tried all the previous recommended suppliers from previous threads on here. cheapest was mega battery store. Many other posters recommended them and stated good battery life. personally I think all batteries can be a gamble but I could buy 3 or more sets for the cost of the dearest types! Jeanneau original equipment were budget batteries and they lasted 8yrs! When I finally placed order for 4 batteries (3 leisure + 1 cranking) they gave me an even cheaper total price. Free delivery next day. for same size as original batteries IIRC they were 125Ah.

I had to have sealed batteries for charter coding. Other recommended batteries eg Trojan are not sealed.

Check slack on cables and type of connection before ordering. Cranking battery had terminals in middle! Most other leisure batteries had +ve terminal on opp. side (which appears to now be standard) but there was sufficient cable to fit OK.

Like VicS I used Tayna batteries because I was able to search on size. There are actually just a few standard sizes, but they are not quite as standard as they might be, and +/- 5mm variations can matter - and did matter to me. I ended up with 2 x 65Ah Vartas, because those were the biggest that would fit in the moulded battery tray I have.

+ 1 for Tayna Batteries. We bought Enduroline Calcium Leisure EXV105 Batteries for both cranking and domestic use with a four-year guarantee, and so far they have performed very well. Delivery was extremely quick - literally next day, as they say on the website. Time will tell whether they are any good over the long term.

I've specced large quantities of Yuasa 6 and 12v batteries for use in UPS systems. They have been very very good, but kept in flat, temperature-controlled, voltage steady, conditions. Some have a 10 yr or 15 yr design life (the EN series)

Worth a look at their site (and a call) if you have not come across them.

Mostly Korean - try here http://www.atlasbx.co.kr/eng/product/product_list/Product_View_SC.do they make the Alphaline ones - but there are certainly some Chinese ones around.

Were your Jeanneau OEM batteries Tudor? Mine were (2003) and I have heard the same from several others. Good quality conventional product.

Yes I think you are right what surprised me was that all 4 were leisure batteries . On replacing all supplies that stocked both recommended 1 cranking battery + 3 leisure.

IIRC Tanya , battery mega store and bardon (& others) whose names I forgot - seems like I contacted about 10!) all had a budget range with a name on it yet cases were identical in every detail. Accept your knowledge that they are Korean. Only time will tell if they are as good as the Tudor OEMs .
