Battery charger - to leave on permanently?

When I do it ....

Will be some time to go yet - as I need to get back to UK !!
Probably early spring ... but I know I'm back for May - have the Yarmouth do to look after !

The Charger has no meter - only led's ... but I would guess it must put about 6 -8 amps ?? on full charge and then drops back to float .... I charge a 100+ A/hr battery and a 80 A/hr with it no problem.

What charger do you use all time ?? I have a supposed safe halfords auto charger that they say can stay on permanent - but am reluctant to trust it .....

its a ( i think but will check) merlin, pukker boat charger, multi stage, when i connect to the mains it squirts pulses at the batteries, it then anylyses the state of charge, bangs it to it, then slows down , then floats and it keeps the batteries perfect, they are sealed. it also is connected to both baks with internal diodes so that it charges but keeps separate, it has the facility to do another bank if nec. have used it for 3 years now and in the winter it stays on all the time.

What I'm looking for is a person like me - scrooge who uses car based float charger etc.

There is a good trickle type mainscharger that I got from Wickes for £25, it looks like one of these plug-in low voltage supplies for electrical appliances and has a 1 amp in-line fuse. It keeps the battery topped up but you need to check the electolyte (distilled water) as the small current flow will drop the level a bit after a few months

trickle charger ....

same can be had from maplins and other outlets for about half the price .......... most looking like a mobile phone charger and supplying anywhere around 500mA ......
