I'm thinking of fitting a Barton Boomstrut as I'm getting fed up with faffing around with the topping lift. They seem like a pretty good solution - nice & simple. Has anyone got any experience with fitting and using one?

I fitted one to my Hunter 26 a couple of years ago. It (the struts) proved to be about an inch too long so I had to cut a bit off, otherwise it did the job and was easy to fit. The only problem I had was a siezed screw (galling I think it's called) in the fitting that attaches the lower end of the strut to the sail slide track at the base of the mast. I'm told it's something to do with a stainless screw and a threaded stainless fitting welding themselves together (beats me). I greased the screw and it didn't happen again.

My friend fitted one on their Contessa 28 and are pleased with it. Make sure you fit it on before cutting the rods to length.
