Hi,

I'm trying to find what charter companies are available in Ireland. Looking for bareboat charter (sail, of course, and cruising not racing) for a weekend from somewhere close enough to an airport for flights from England.

I've seen the website for Sail Ireland in Kinsale but nothing else. I have a vague recollection of seeing a small ad in one of the sailing mags a couple of years ago for a company in Carrickfergus but haven't been able to find it again.

Does anybody know of any charter companies in Ireland? Any feedback from direct experience?

Thanks.

YM have had a couple of articles within the last couple of years re chartering in Ireland, one from Kinsale and the other, one way from Dingle to Kinsale- with the same company.
If I find the articles I will pm you.

Thanks. I think the web site is a little out of date however. I spoke to the Carlingford Sea School about twelve months ago and they said they'd dropped out of doing bareboat charters.

[/ QUOTE ] Well, quite honestly it would help if either Carlingford Sea School or yourself would email us rather than moaning on a public forum. The site is only as up to date as the information we receive. The fact that they are still calling themselves Carlingford Sea School and Yacht Charter is not very helpful either /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Their entry is now removed. The remaining five entries all appear to point to valid websites whose owners are at least claiming to be involved in chartering yachts /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If anyone comes across any Irish charter companies with websites that are not listed perhaps they could PM me.

If you have a boat on this side, maybe you could arrange a boat swap and both families could enjoy sailing in new areas.

Dogwatch Cheapskate MAB swapping services Ltd.

Just a thought, I can't believe no one has done this, people are now house swapping around the globe, this could open up certain sailing areas that people can't get to in the normal MaB club.

Good idea. Trouble is I mainly race other people's boats and do the odd cruising charter so I've never quite got around to buying my own.

If you want to ensure accuracy on your website, maybe you should check with the Carlingford Sea School themselves and put in place some mechanism to periodically re-validate their data and everyone else's.

I have no relationship with them at all, not even that of being a bareboat charterer. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello, We chartered out of Dingle a few years ago, from a company called (I think) Greens or Greeneys I think the person was called John Green??
Chartered a Moody 31S had a great time only saw one boat for the whole week (they had also chartered from him) that was in August not sure if he is still there. A great place to sail though, check out Derrynane a beautiful place to stop if settled weather!

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah. Sure. A link checker is one thing, but if you know of a script that will go to a website and read it, parse the content then make a judgement decision as to whether the site description on the linking site is current then I suggest you offer it to Microsoft or Google - they will give you millions for it.

On the other hand, anyone finding an outdated link could just email or PM me . . . that seems like an eminently sensible solution.

What was wrong with the other five links on the page? They all go to Irish charter companies' websites and would have provided the information you requested at the start of this thread.

As an alternative, why don't you sail your own boat over to Bangor or Carrickfergus one weekend and leave her there for a while if you want to do some cruising in the area?

That's a limitation of the concept of your website. You're always going to have a problem keeping it up to date. I make no apology for not valuing it highly having found a link out of date. If I have a bad meal in a restaurant I don't try everything else on the menu just to make sure, I just go elsewhere the next time.

The spec was bareboat sailing charters near enough to an airport with frequent enough services for crew to fly over from England for the weekend.

Sail Ireland was already mentioned in my post.

Sailing Ireland in Kilmore Quay just do skippered charter (& teaching)

Dingle & Lough Dearg are not convenient enough for a weekend return trip, and anyway I'm not looking for an inland sailing holiday.

I'll look into Harbour Yacht Management further. Their latest pricelist is three years old, but you never know maybe they're just taking a stand against inflation.

I was hoping that someone on the forum would know of charter companies other than the ones on the web.

In general, I'm not interested in being an unpaid researcher for your website, but if I do find anything out in this case I'll PM you with details.

Sail Ireland are close to Cork for flights and in a great starting place for a cruise in the best area in the South and SW. Their boats seem well found, you could do worse.
