Marina port vell, centre of the city and safe. However be aware that the city itself has it's problems with "tourist crime" it's more a case of being aware of what and who are around you. Enjoy it you rarely get the chance to park your boat somewhere like Barcelona.

Cruising the Spanish coast - thinking of stopping at Barcelona for a month or so from the end of next week!

9.4 m ketch - draws 1.5 metres.

reasonable marina prices accepted and convenience/security highly desirable! is it worth a reservation or otherwise?

thanks in advance..

Head for El Masnou, on the outskirts to North about 8 miles, on the underground network train stop is alongside the marina. only 10 minutes into centre. They'll the marina you want the monthly rate, they will do pro rated for half a month, it's about 75% cheaper than day rate. We Re there now.

Hm but then they aren't "in Barcelona. Port Vell is super central (altho it's a roomy city, need to use cabs to get places a bit...) and Olympico also central to the newer bit of the town, restaurants etc both with pretty good security. Perhaps go to Port Vell and think about it - the marina is exposed to returning Pilot vessels who send a swoosh into the pontoons every time they rip in, and i kinda think visitors get those more exposed pontoons. No such bouncing in Olympico but not as central, but there again, newer with lots more restaurants etc

The not-so-secure stuff happens as soon as you leave the marinas with nice security staff and go into the town, where lightfingered types abound probably more than in most European cities really, hence good idea to have minimal money, zipped up, no handbags, all that tiresome stuff...

Can you give us some idea how much you are paying? And for what size boat?

Thanks

Got to agree with others about Port Vell. Went there in mid 2002 on our way south. Finally left there in mid 2006. Barcelona is that kind of place you feel at home in.

Enjoy and don't rush your time there.

Bearing in mind what has been said above. Just got back from Port Ginesta further South. Still in Zone 1 and cheaper than central marinas. Very clean and nice (had €12 menu del dia - caparaccio followed by a nice steak and dessert with a drink before we left). Secure and plenty of space. Might be worth looking at.

Port Ginesta is cheaper but slightly out of town (20kms south although there is a direct bus from the port to local village and also in to Barcelona).

Port Olimpic is more expensive, closer to town and also has better access to local amenities (cinemas, supermarkets etc).

Port Forum is probably the most expensive of the 3 but you are right in the centre of town so well worth the experience. Depending on your budget, I'd start in Forum and go check the other ones out on a day trip, which will also give you a chance to see other parts of town.

Security is fine, just try and look as little like a tourist as you can, to reduce the chances of mugginess.

PM me if you need anything - I live in Barcelona.
