Currently in Lagos Marina and thinking of moving next to Barbate, Costa de la Luz. I visited there by land and seems a good if spartan marina. What I am mainly concerned about is yacht security as unfortunately I have to work so leave the yacht for long periods in between living!

Has anybody first hand knowledge of the Marina? If so what do/did you think of the security?

Another possibility might be Chippiona, at the entrance of the Guadalquivir. Have looked at it, and stayed for a night and security seems very good, with guards and locked pontoons.

I'm also currently in Lagos and like it, so that I'm thinking on using it for another winter season. I suspect though that Chippiona is cheaper.

No experience with Barbate, but if they are also part of the Spanish state owned Marina chain, the price would be the same as in Chippiona. I think.

I will spend some time there on the way to Barbate, but I have been attending a College in Vejer de Frontera to improve my Spanish and that is close to Barbate so can live on the boat and attend.
Thanks for the info though

Yes I like Lagos as well BUT is is very expensive in the Summer, so I expect to go to Spain through the summer and then possibly winter back in Lagos. The 9 month contract over Winter is good value.
As I said in another response I will take my time going to Barbate and look in on all the Marinas on the way from Lagos. But as I want to be close to Vejer for a few months, Barbate is favourite.

Spent several days in there 15 months ago. Never knew it existed until had to find a bolt hole in a storm. Enjoyed every minute there but doubt that it’s everyone’s cup of tea. Marina is around a kilometre from the town and, when I was there, several vessels had been holed up there for months (some just enjoying their stay and others for repairs or, like me, just sheltering).
Access to pontoons via a gate, most of the time unguarded and unlocked but no obvious signs of any real need for more security. No general tourists seen and locals were all great. My first real introduction too to tapas, real Spanish style in the town bars.
Excellent boat repair yard next to the Marina too and cost very reasonable.
Whilst there, also visited Gibraltar and other local towns by bus. A very enjoyable experience. And yes, I will be back next time I’m down that way.

We stayed in both Barbate and Chippiona in July last year after crossing from Florida.
Chippiona was very secure and pretty good value at 18 euros per night high season.
We anchored in the harbour in Barbate.
Another good place was Villa Real de San Antonio (Portugal - Spain border).
10 euros per night high season and have deals for monthly and yearly stays.
Would definately be my choice.
