Definately not, beer is far better than Fosters. Almost ANY type of beer is better than Fosters. Even Tooheys New!

It is an interesting quandry that Fosters is Australia's biggest export beer, simply explained by the fact that nobody here in OZ can stand it so it all gets shipped out...

Reminds me of the time in Central OZ in the seventies. I was a land surveyor back in them days working for the mines department. We had an aboriginal chainman, great worker, never wore shoes anywhere, even in 45 deg heat walking over sand and rocks. The other probolem we had with Mikey is he didn't like wearing clothes which was OK outside town but not always excepted in town for some reason.

Anyway we had all our food for a month in the traler behind the 4WD as we only went back to town (usually a full day drive) to shop once a month. We also had drums of fuel in there one of which burst on a particularly rough track. Needless to say all but the tinned food tasted of petrol for weeks.

We soon got sick of it so Mikey wandered off with one of the rifles and came back dragging a Kangaroo. He built a big fire and let it burn down to charcoal then threw the roo onto it with no preparation at all, covered it with sand and let it cook for a couple of hours.

It was the best BBQ meat I ever tasted once I got over the horror of the whole thing. Over the next week we also tried Plain Turkey and a few other water birds. We couldn't find any Koalas.

Fortunately we had plenty of beer that didn't taste of petrol (it wasn't Fosters) to wash it down.

Re: Fosies

We only send the beer swilling yobbos over, we wouldn't like them to stand out too much...

Why? Kangaroo is available in supermarkets around europe, and remember the McDonalds fiasco in the states, when they were adding roo, to there 100% beef hamburgers, now that was fun!!

Agreed. But some Aussies regard eating their national animal with abhorrence. In Canberra they were considering giving roos vasectomies to keep the numbers down, instead of culling them and selling the meat.

The current yearly licensed cull of Kangaroos in OZ is now 7 million. I can't see vasectomies being a cost effective culling method, unless you call shooting from a distance a vasectomy. When I get a vasectomy I'm hoping this isn't the method or they have REALLY good aim.

Hell of a waste of meat if you ask me. This would feed a bucket load of needy people.

I know it's off boating topic but Kanga meat is extremely healthy, very low fat content and cooked the right way (slow roast) it is really tender. There's quite a few restaurants serving it around here.

I thought it daft too. It was in the Canberra Times about ten years ago and it was to control the roo population on the Governor General's residence. Perhaps it was just the way ACT thinks and not Oz.

Hi- I have an American MAGMA gas barbie sitting on my pushpit which I use all year round.
With the gas barbie you have instant heat and as the unit is made of stainless steel it can get as hot
as you want - it is easy to regulate. You can plug in a trow away gas cannister or you can plug it into
the galley gas bottle if you prefer. If you don't use the lid you can heat a pot of coffee or have a fry
up of a morning (with no smells below decks). It is very rare that a breeze will blow out the flame.
One option I would advise is to fit it with a factory made cover-comes in blue, green and white otherwise
the gas nozzle in the barbie is inclined to rust over a period. (This happened to my first barbie).

As regards charcoal barbies -they are fine as long as you have space to store the charcoal. They
can be very slow to light up, ash can blow about the decks and and as far as I am concerned there is no taste difference between the
two.

Bon appetit!
