making toast this morning using the grill on mate's boat - a new smev oven/grill. just onto the second batch when there's an almighty bang from the oven and i'm minus some eyebrows. the gas lit first time and stayed lit so where did the gas come from? anyone else had this problem? i have an identical model on my own boat so i'm a bit nervous about using it now.

Glad to hear its only the eyebrows ! Some people pay good money to have them plucked.

There are two sets of burners, ie the flames come out at opposite sides so it is possible that one side had remained unlit?

no, checked that before i started toasting!

the oven and grill burners are separate but operate by turning the knob in opposite directions. they share a flame failure device. i suspect the oven burner lets out gas when the grill is lit but the oven works ok on its own.

I had this problem on a Caravan cooker it ignited under the grill twice and shot out a ball of flame. It was a new Caravan and fault eventually turned out to be a crushed olive on pipe feeding one of the rings, everything worked fine till grill was lit and bang ?
Seems gas system checks only test pipes to cooker from bottle and does not test appliance itself. Check all connections carefully.
