Ball slides on fully battened mainsail

Peter Sanders supplied us with a new fully battened main and jib at the start of last season. We had had Frederiksen cars originally on the battens, but some of these had failed and we had replaced two with larger balled Ronstan cars.

Peter encouraged us to upgrade to Ronstan batten cars and intermediates, and as a result sail handling has been much easier. The sails are radial design in cruiser laminate, and set beautifully.

Fuga is a Dehler 41DS with large main and self tacking jib.

Is that because the new cars fitted the existing track? Or did you have to change the track on the mast as well?

His advice to us was based on our having no track at all at the moment so we are starting from a blank sheet and asked for a 'go anywhere' rig. he councelled very strongly against roller bearing batten cars, even though it was my initial preference. (Harken or Ronstan)
