Baie des Anges

I think I may have lucked out and have been offered the purchase of a berth starting from 01/07/2018 in PV.

My broker who sold me the boat was tasked to find a berth or the deal was going to change and to his credit a client he has just sold a boat for needs to move his berth on as he needs a bigger one and doesn't want to rent.

Thanks all for your input, I look forward to meeting some of you, having been planning this for a few years now.

Well done congratulations.
Leases up in 4 years so prices are tumbling , but mainly you have security for a while , after which have a re think .
It’s an easy place to keep a boat .

But before pulling the trigger check out La Napoule Berth sales - lease until 2029 , work out the price diff and a notional extra rent from 2022 to 2029 for your size ish ? .
Bit of extra outlay now may save € hundreds of thousand later .

I am happy with 4 years as I will probably look at Majorca or possibly Italy or perhaps I will be bored of the Med?????? As it is my first boat in the Med after 50 years of the UK east coast, I am hedging my bets that 4 years is going to be OK and at the price it was worth the deal.

Interesting you say prices tumbling as I was told that in the last year or 2, you may be able to get a slight premium as the lease holder gets security on the berth, I guess if you can't afford the lease in 2021, then that is possibly irrelevant?

Well done on the berth - but do make sure you get a letter from the capitanerie confirming that your boat is acceptable on the berth, otherwise you may find yourself being surcharged for surplus length.

Whereabouts in PV are you going to be?

If you withstood the UK E coast for 50 years, you can safely bet that you will not be bored of the Med for the next FIVE HUNDREDS! :D
Well done, enjoy your stay. :encouragement:

Great going on the berth. Leaving aside the management, Port Vauban is best seats in the house. The port is good and having beautiful Antibes town right there is icing on cake.

Up to you obviously but if you want to pm the berth number and price a few of us on here have been in the port 10-15 years or whatever and can give you a comment on the deal. No pressure/your choice obviously.

Hi Jimmy

Pier 10 or at least it had 10 on it I thin., The other side from the town basically a few berths down on the right. The broker is telling me it is a 17m x 5..... And yes I have a meeting with the marina to sort everything.

Cheers

John

Quai 10 is the north side of the port - see below. Quieter, but a longer walk to town.

However the berth is *not* a 17x5, there are no berths at that size in PV, it will be a 15x5 where 17m loa has been allowed in the past. Buyer beware here: the port policy on all this has recently changed and you (= the broker trying to sell you the berth) absolutely must get a written assurance from the capitanerie that your 16m boat will be allowed on the berth. I'll be v interested to hear how you get on with this.

I'm on quai 2, up at the end, lhs - come and have a beer once you are established. Good luck with it.

Nice position! :encouragement:
Why don't you PV residents prepare a map with all forumites berths?
You know, just in case someone happens to drive along the CdA and is a bit thirsty...

Cheers Jimmy, let's hope they allow me in.... If not then I'll be a bloody long way away in Hyères. If all goes to plan you will see me on 1st July.....

The walk is fine, I need the exercise :)

How did you get an offer of a place in Hyeres? You can’t buy a lease in Hyeres (as fast as I know) all the berths require you to be on a waiting list, which is probably well over a decade (or two). The town keeps a few berths for visitors and some short term lets, but it’s often hard to get one of these

My boat was purchased from a guy who owns the berth for the boat and his other boat, so was happy to let the berth with the boat sale. Its a bit far away from the airport, but absolutely stunning area.

Are you sure that is allowed. Again, I could be wrong but I believe that the berths can’t be passed on or traded. As far as I know they are let on a yearly contract that, after you have been on the waiting list etc, after renewed each year but there is no guarantee that they will be. After the boat has changed hands you are not entitled to the place, the next person on the list is. Or the original berth holder can put his new boat in it

Thought Ryan air used to do Hyères ?

No, used to be year round (the good old days) after the 2008 crash they cut out the winter flights. Then they had a dispute with the French government and quit Hyeres altogether. Hyeres is exactly halfway between Marseille and Nice, so you can take your pick of airport

So now we have elements of doubt .
Booted out of Hyères or stuffed on Loa ( Jtb,s post ^^ ) in Antibes .

Time to buy more Eli Lilly shares - ( Prozac maker ) :)
