Bad mannered crew

I tied up between two 40 foot ish charter boats in Poole last year - the money collector didn't see me and I had a free night. Their weekend charter cost more than my years running costs and I can do it every weekend! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Joe, I know where the ensign went. After careful investigation TOME discovered it was exactly the right area for his spinnaker. He just snipped the corners off and has a nice new set of curtains as well

Ah. Easy mistake - tome has obviously sailed back to his marina in your outsized ashtray using the ensign as a spinny.

Tome told me you were doing stability tests. There are a bunch of us on here that have experience with this - if you need any help.

Tell Johnno he can have his ensign back - it nearly brought our mast down.

Not again! This has GOT to stop happening. When they left Falmouth yesterday they still hadn't found the spare one (see below).

That was me in the pilot boat trying to hand it back, but as we came alongside I heard Johnno say 'Oh no, not him again' and put all 2000 HP into top gear. Smoke everywhere and last saw him caning her towards the West.

Thanks, but that looks a bit too scientific for us. Anyway, by stability tests I think TOME means walking through the saloon without spilling his drink. We gave him three attempts then called it a night.

Three attempts? That was a complete waste of time. I could have told you he would spill after his first step - especially with your ensign stuffed into his back pocket

Thought about stowing her away in the garage for a free lift to the Caribee, but there was a tatty stinkpot in there already.

Sorry, but you gave me that one on a plate, I couldn't resist. Reminds me of the days when we had 30 footers, and going out for a sail didn't involve firing up the hydraulics and you could actually tack the boat in less than 4 minutes. The good ol'days! Mind you, there are some benefits nowadays too!

Anyway, they're off to Florida first, and you wouldn't want to go there. You almost have to ask permission to go out for a day sail, never mind actually trying to get somewhere. Seems a little too controlling to me, and I am an American.

My first experience of US waters (Mississippi Delta) in Lafayette Skiffs, then a bit of sailing out of Galveston. USCG do seem very controlling, and your booees are the wrong way round.

Don't mean to hi jack the post (highly amusing by the way - and just jealous that I never get near the big one)

Anyway, US refs are mentioned and it reminded me of my best experience of yachting and regulations in the USA. The USCG asked to come aboard when I was skippering a Services STC. I <font color="red"> invited </font> them on board (vessel is classed as a warship and therefore British Sovereign Territory, but I was being polite). They were all for asking about firedrills and counting the flares, but I decoyed them by showing the ships papers:-

Owner "The Secretary of State for Defence for Her Majesty the Queen "

They left soon afterwards...
