Lovely weekend in the Solent was marred somewhat when one of our crew joined us in Portsmouth Saturday morning. We were moored alongside a larger boat, and he described my pride and joy as looking like a 'toothpick'.

I'm not normally touchy, but this has been irritating me all weekend. Am I being over-sensitive?

Reall depends what you were moored beside. If it were MirabellaV or a 72 foot Twister then I could understand it, on the other hand if it were a J Class ....

I don't think size matters when it comes to manners.

But were you invited on board??

can't remember which way the wind was ... but a westerly and you'd've been nicely sheltered!

We were nicely sheltered from the NW'ly wind thanks.

Then my wife took me to see a chick-flick on false pretences, telling me that it was a thriller with SAS and a sailing scene etc. 'Closer' I think it was called, utter c**p.

MV crew were very pleasant, poor creatures. They begged us for any fresh vegetables we may have on board and did I know anything about bending-on sails?

A new position? Bending on Sails? ... ah .. no sorry - get what your saying now!!
I hope you offered them suitable advice as all yachties do ... and gave them the last of your turnips in exchange for a bottle of their finest .... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There is a lesson to be learned here. If they can't recognise a good yacht when they see one, either
1) Discover you have not enough lifejackets, or whatever (up to EPIRBS), so he can't come
Or
2) Give him every single awkward, dirty, difficult or nav (if he is at all seas sick) you can find.

Such ignorance needs strong measures. There could be mitigating circumstances, so adjust as necessary /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
