Bad luck or scroungers?

Daintiest shark bite I've ever seen ...... and it wouldn't effect the Aries performance much even if it wasn't fixed.

The USCG and the USN do tend to have little idea of the capabilities of sail boats ....... so their story would have a ring of truth except "Publisher’s note: The following story… is Pascal’s story. Pascal’s account may not mesh with published Coast Guard reports. According to a passport stamp, the date of his arrival in Norfolk was in September, one month before Hurricane Sandy. "

Using the excuse that their vessel is not fit to go to sea may cause them more grief ..... especially if they suggest that they don't have the funds to put it right. Generally most nations will allow a foreign crew to work on a vessel in order to get it seaworthy if their visas are expired.... If they aren't doing anything constructive the vessel is likely to be arrested and sold to fund the crews passage home.

Moitessier was one of my heroes but his halo lost it's shine a little when I realised that he had wrecked every boat he ever owned sometimes through some pretty suspect seamanship.

Still his positive accomplishments will stand for all time.

I've always thought of him as being rather selfish too since in abandoning the golden globe race he also effectively abandoned his family. Whilst he was a remarkable man and sailor (despite his track record) I don't idolise him like many others do.
