Back to the UK for a winter refit

Might see you at Dusseldorf then, we'll be there on 24 and 25 January.

It'll be interesting to see what you come up with for quick-release helm seats; removing the helm seat on Vega took ages, because of the fore-aft adjuster mechanism it was _very_ well fixed to the boat.

Oh - thats a shame, Jimmy - we are doing the previous weekend.

I, kind of, thought of a way to quick release the helm seats.
Initially, mine came out really easily but were a pig to get back.
Having got them apart, I could see how the sliding mechanism works.
On mine, there are two slots formed by a drilled and cut hole.
The bit of metal left between the holes/slots seems to be designed to stop the adjuster bar coming out from its locating holes.
If that bit of metal were filed out, the bar would slide in and out easily.
Yes, it might be too easy when adjusting the fore and aft position but we dont set them much anyway.
So, that was one idea but I will be looking at Dusseldorf for a better sliding mechanism.

Unless anyone on here knows of one!!

Don't know if something like this gives any ideas. I thought you might be able to bolt the quick release directly to your current seat adjuster rather than retaining and using the swivel plate.

Actually, that gives me an idea.
There are 4 bolts on mine that bolt through but it was impossible to line them up with the seat in place.
Maybe welding studs on would work - and then wing nuts - I'll have another look.

I'd agree that the D-C website is a triumph of form over function. Spradling make (amongst other fabrics) Silvertex, which is what Princess used to fit as one of their OE cockpit fabrics (they called it Movida). I'm not overly bothered about sticking to the manufacturer's prescribed application - I think it's just as valid to look at what other owners have done (like Bart on BA, or Jfm on both Match 1 and 2, or Nick_h on his P57) and see what looks good and works well in the flesh. At the end of the day, this cockpit reupholstering exercise is actually one of the cheaper parts of the refit, so although you don't want to get it wrong, it is not the end of the world if you do change your mind about fabrics.

Spradling send out a sample book (which I have here) which has all the colourways albeit in tiny postage-stamp sized samples. For Sunbrella, D-C want you to buy A5-sized samples at €1.80 each.

Did you find a list of all the colours for Sunbrella? I don't mind paying for samples if I know I am ordering colours that look close, but on the D-C site I couldn't even find a comprehensive list of colours (unless they only do a few?)

Try this. You'll get a popup asking you to select your location, but all the colours should load underneath:

Might see you at Dusseldorf then, we'll be there on 24 and 25 January.

I had planned to go on Friday 23,
could probably stay one day longer and have a beer together

I have some remaining samples of sunbrella all grey variations, but they are very small size
If you want, I can put them in an envelope and post them to you ?
In holland there is a online scatter cushion shop, they send the fabric samples foc, I feel some urge to order scatter cushions from them now ;-)

I was thinking of visiting Dusseldorf myself also coincidentally to look for replacement flybridge helmseats which are easily removable. How about having a forum dinner one evening?

Hi Bart, that would be very helpful - yes please. I'll PM you my address. Be very nice to see you in Dusseldorf of the evening of 23 January, or the day of 24 January, whichever suits. Just you, or E also?

Good idea. We are planning to go to Dr Thompsons http://www.drthompsons.info/ on the Friday night, and Im Schiffchen http://www.im-schiffchen.com/ on the Saturday. Any good? Or anywhere else you like, for the Friday (I'm quite keen to give Im Schiffchen a try on the Saturday).

good idea,
the evening of the 23th would suit me perfectly,
for me OK in Dr Thompsons as per jimmi's sugestion.

Jimmi, I'll post the sunbrella samples

Fab, thanks Bart. I'll update the reservation at Dr Thompsons. (Deleted User, let me know if you're coming along too).

Jimmy, I would plan to travel Friday afternoon/evening so I can't be sure of getting to Dusseldorf in time for dinner but I'd certainly be up for dinner on Sat night. I will have to take the missus as well otherwise she gets grumpy

Be very nice to see you and S. It would be perfect if you are able to make it for dinner on the Friday with Bart and (possibly) E. Let me know when you've sorted out your flights and I'll tune up the restaurant reservations.

Anyway, back on topic: In the light of the quotes that I had been given for the various refurb tasks on the engines, I decided that I needed to be more closely involved in the work, so I can see where the money is being spent. It follows therefore that I need to carry out the refurb work a bit closer to home, so today I went along to Bursledon today and collected the engines and drives:

I dropped them off at Brighton Marina this afternoon; work starts next week.

That could have been an expensive trailer tyre blowout! I bet you took it very easy on the drive to Brighton!

You're right, I did. It wasn't completely without incident either, one of the ratchet straps failed (chafed through, I think) on the A27. I saw the end of the strap flailing around and so stopped at the very first opportunity (maybe a minute after it happened). Luckily I had more straps on the van, so not a disaster, but briefly a bit worrying.

Does anyone recognise this rubbing strake profile? This is OE on my T40, and I'd like to get some more for the extended pods, if poss:

Petem - do you know who the OE supplier to Fairline is?
