Back to earth?

I always try to come alongside my berth gently.

Hitting earth with a bump, to my mind, usually indicates a cock up of some sort! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
The worst thing for me is the next morning at home.

Above my bunk is a grab handle that I get hold of to swing out of the bunk. The first morning in bed at home I am grappling in thin air to find nothing.

Then I know I am back at home, and have to wait anxiously to get back on board.
 
Try coming back after 4 weeks of sailing a total of 900 NM. The first week at the office after this is hell on earth.
I must admit I did enjoy the space of my house again (compared to the boat cabin), but the prospect of 48 weeks at the office again (more or less) leaves me quite desperate...

Moving heaven and earth ...

After just a day .... step on shore and feels like earth is rocking just like on the boat ... sit in pub and feel that movement ... inner ear I believe still in boat mode !!

I hate going back from boat ... it's like a different world and escape for me - even though my whole work is tied up in marine affairs ...

For me the joy of the last unregulated bastion is so great that I will fight tooth and nail to keep it as unregulated as possible. (bearing in mind safe practice of course ......... keel-hauling, yard-arm neck stretching etc. )

Yes .... the shackles go back on when you step of the boat ...

Agree absolutely with this - after 2 weeks I found the noise, traffic, speed cameras and general ant-heap feeling quite unnerving and unpleasant..

I'm sitting here just having increased our work by another two vessels today ... got to pay the bills !! so done my days duty .. and just looking forward to the Cherbourg trip .....

I have wife programmed up for the bbq tonight .... have beer cooling off in fridge ..... may even dissappear for an hour on the river later .... as the weather here is gorgeous at moment ....

Boats ... who can live without 'em ???? I can't !!
 
Cherbourg ... The Scuttlebutt meeting ...

My palm gives tide on Friday as just after 3pm ... so reckon mid afternoon once I've had a pint and lunch at the pub ... it will take me 18+ hrs to get over there with my tub ... so that's about 1500 out, 0900 - 1200 arrive ...

Why - you want a tow ??

When I bought the boat .... I asked seller about his trips to CH. Isles and N. France .... he said as often as he could he did the trip etc. I mentioned that I always fancied Barfleur and he said .....

"10 hours"

I asked him .... " 10 hrs ???? You sure ??"

"10 hrs !" he said and opened the engine box .... "With that - it's 10 hrs ...... "

32Hp 4-99 Perkins in a 25ft sail-boat .... which has now been replaced with a de-rated 4-107 at about 40HP !! Logged 9.8kts across Solent last time back ....

Anyway .... I fancy just sails across .... engine drives me nuts with all that noise and smell ....

I dont know if anyone else has this but after a week or so sailing I still have the 'ocean motion' for a couple of days after so all I have to do is close my eyes and I'm back on the oggin!
