Was going to release the back stay to fit a new bimini but cannot budge it.
Could it be locked or just siezed. Have to admit I never used it in the three years I have owned JUNINA.After further consideration I wonder how it's held together as it looks corroded in places.
Had the bright idea of easing the front stay but there no way I can see to do that so I'm presuming it's tensioned by the back stay.
In the picture theres a single pop rivet on the boss that I nearly sheered but it couldn't all depend on that surely?
Any advice welcome.

I'd suggest the pop rivet fixes the boss to the top of the tube, that's all.

The bottom attachment looks easy to remove, you haven't shown the top attachment. I would take the whole thing off, it will be easier to sort out on a bench - penetrating oil, heat, all the usual stuff.

Thanks. Seems sensible to remove it for repair. I have already lashed The boom halyard to the pushpit. JIC.
The top attachment is just a bolt through a fork just out of sight.
On first reading I thought you were refering to the top of the mast fitting

Here's the strip down.
The wheel is siezed to the boss below. Is the grub screw locking them. Of course it's siezed also.
The screw now turns freely through the wheel so the problem is at the wheel /boss.

Sorted. The problem was what I assume was a fiber washer between the boss and wheel. It had taken a grip that i couldn't release.Use a junior hack to remove it. Not able to replace it directly as the siezed grub screw now appeard to hold the captive inner boss to the wheel.
Not happy as the set up seems to depend on the wheel and boss remaining together. At least the design will prevent the compete release of the backstay from the anchor point so I'll just have to bear in mind it's lasted a long time. Think I'll look at a standard turn buckle replacment as I am not likely to be interfering with the rig tension once its set up to my likeing.
