Zen Zero of these fora lives near Pisa as I recall - try PM-ing him and he can recommend somewhere for you I am sure.

Yes message Zen zero , I'm sure he will have all the numbers I have in my phone of all the marina owners who can accommodate a 50 ft yacht. Here in Viareggio of course, where theres no space even for a 20 footer, funny how i find one. I'm also sure he has tons of friends here and is on first name terms with quite a lot of the ship chandlery owners and he gets a 30 percent discount ta boot. I'm also sure he speaks fluent Italian as he'll need that for sure to help out bearing in mind prices suddenly jump for the stranieri who speaks a bit, I can't wait to hear the outcomes of this one, I'm out Of here and good riddance.

here a small extract from the end of our blog .

" Since we left Greece we done just under 800 mile over half was done under sail alone the full cost of our mooring fees has been 50 Euros for two nights, we had no problem getting water and we never had to pay for it , after Greece it been a really nice change , the food have all ways been fresh and the fruit and veg very tasty compere to what we was use to in Greece .

Even though the good anchorages are very crowed in the day time at the weekends come 6 pm and your back on your own with just a few yacht .

The two harbour that we used was free and the fish men where always happy to help out, moving their boats in some cases to make room .

It has been said that the west coast has no shelter from the NW and marina have to be used at a high cost, we found the very opposite,

From the North west winds there is plenty of shelter and even in a big blow as long as you plain your trip , which you should do automatically any way , you will find somewhere to sit out a blow .

if you use to Greece it do take a bit to get used to, there not an Island around every corner, but if your confident in anchoring and your seamanship is above novice standard , the west coast is well worth a visit . "

Thanks Jason I will call you shortly - I am in Viareggio. I actually emailed the new marina in Pisa with the help of google translate and received a reasonable quote - compared to the price at Marina Cala de Medici which is way too expensive - and there they know I am not from around here.
We'll see how things go once I take delivery, whenever that might be. Some are quick on the draw when it comes to changing prices for foreigners but super slow when it comes to bureaucratic performance. When I feel I am being taken advantage of I simply walk away and take my business elsewhere.

Interesting thread.
I am planning a cruise from Menton, Cote d'Azur to Capri and then Amalfi next June and July. Stopping at the various islands on the way. Happy to overnight on the hook in protected bays about two thirds of the time, but my (Italian) lady likes to put on her high heels and just walk straight off the boat (not in that order!) onto a quay sometimes.
Any suggestions of port or marina prices (12.9 metres), especially in the ports and islands around Naples, would be most appreciated.

Marinas are NOT cheap at any time in those parts but do be aware that most of them double the price on July 1st until end of August. I would travel in June by choice if you can - the weather is good but not too hot and much more space everywhere.
 
We just finished our cruise of Sardinia, Corsica and mainland Italy from Elba down to Salerno including the Tuscany archipelago. Marina prices are very steep on average in July/August prices are at least 100+ per night (11meter). As we moved closer to naples good anchorages were less frequent and prices high.We paid on average 40ish on mainland but that was late sept to early Nov. If on a budget avoid July August I would suggest. Capri is the Best: 225 per night excluding electricity and you have to pay 2 euros for shower. In November we got a 'deal' 100 euros for 2 nights including power....
My advice would be to spend high season in Corsica/Sardinia where there are loads of good anchorages and do mainland in shoulder or low season.
We're now wintered in Salerno (marina d'arechi) which is great actually and reasonably priced still (although not as cheap as Cagliari/Sicily).

Ok let me stop you there ..... We did over 2500 miles last year covering Sicily, Sardinia , Corsica, west coast of Italy and the south of France's , our full morning fee for the six months was 90 euros , when we left Greece and headed west people shot me down , I was told we was mad to head East there no safe harbour , no anchorage , and marina fees are way out , so on and so on , it all a total load of rubbish spread about by people who have no idea how to find safe anchorage , some people only consider it only safe to anchor if they are in an horse shoe bay , it was one of the best sailing seasons we had for a long time are fuel bill was pitting to was it been in Greece ,
YES marina can be expenses but not as bad as some make out , we anchored in the south of France in sept and wanted to go to the boat show at Cannes the locals marina was offering berth for 12mts for 45 Euros a night , now 45 Euros more then we wanted to pay BUT it no more then any where else and a lot cheaper then a Greek marina ( how much does corfu or lafkes marina cost ? )we used a harbour marina just one hour from Rome in Aug at 25 Euros a night ?
You don't have to pay 100 plus for a berth you just need to plan your trip .
 
I'm glad you had such a cheap time sailaboutvic and found so many safe anchorages. We travelled the entire length of west Italy and I don't base my opinion on fantasy and am perfectly capable of finding a good anchorage thanks. Just repeating my own personal experience as you have yours. Perhaps you had a very settled period of weather which allowed you to use anchorages which would be somewhat marginal in less benign conditions. I and others have not INVENTED the prices of many of the marinas in popular areas - we actually PAID them and that's why we remember! The prices you quote are in the South of France which is much cheaper. We were talking about italy west coast and islands.
 
We had all sorts of weather from f3 up to 8 at times . Yes there are some very expenses marina the point is there still very well prices once too you just have to look for them , I conceded a harbour marina at 25 euros a night incl water and ele near Rome very good and we are not marina people , centra marseille right in the town aug 45 euros incl water and ele . And there was loads more but we rather anchor , The point I am making is you can sail these parts with out it costing you an arm and a leg , but for some reason people will suggest that it not possible , how ever way you look at it people with over 12 mts yacht in Greece this year are going to find sailing the west coast of Italy a lot cheaper if they have to pay 100 E a mts tax .

Well Let me first clarify I didn't spend 40eur for each night, but per marina night. Secondly, the question asked was what are marina costs around Naples, not 'how cheaply can one sail the med'.
In July and August marinas in that region are expensive. Capri and ischia in top season are in excess of 200 EUR per night, good luck finding a marina in Naples less than 80-100 in top season.
We were unlucky with weather and the Mrs doesn't like spending nights at anchor in force 8-9 which seemed to occur every 2-4 days in last weeks and spend almost 50% of nights in marinas and all I can say I'm very happy it was low season.

Well if it going to blow a 8 or 9 believe me we too be looking for an marina although we have sat out an 8 in Obia with two anchors out .

Capri and ischia you pick to marina for your example which are very expense and why would you want to go into Capri ? We anchored out side and went in the dinghy to look around and ischia has a lovely bay to anchor in and it the weather that bad you just take shelter on the next island Procide where there a great bay and a lovely old town ,Naples , once again we anchored In Baia and visited Naples , to be honest I wouldn't want to go into Naples with a yacht , all I am saying is there plenty of places you can find to anchor on the other hand there also high cost marina ever where even in Greece and turkey you just got to plan ,plan and plan again
 
Jim , I couldn't said it better is so fewer words myself , yes it is about going from country to country , other wise speaking for my self I would had stayed at home and did local sailing .
