We are about to spend our first night back in our home since the Feb 2014 floods. Still some snagging to complete but it is nice to be back. What a long year....

Gavi. As someone who never really gets down below Windsor, I didn't realised some folks were still out of their houses and still putting up with the effects of the floods. I'm sure it was truly awful for you and others but glad that it can nearly be put behind you. Hope 2015 is a better year for you, your family and neighbors. Happy new year.

Crikey, you must be overjoyed!

I truly hope the next few months are relatively dry, hope it all goes well.

Well done and good luck in the future.
My sisters friend who lives above dennet's boatyard is still not in!

Many thanks all. 2014 was a difficult year to say the least. On the bright side, we were well insured and the insurance company, Halifax, have been superb. I really cannot fault them. For example, rather than insisting on like for like they gave us a like for like budget and allowed us to add to it and allocate the spend how we wished. The builders have been great and we now have a completely redesigned house. Not only improved in terms of function and usability (e.g. much better kitchen) but also in terms of preparation should a flood happen again. Sealed floors and walls, tiling throughout, all fitted furniture sitting on legs with sacrificial skirting.... it is just a shame that the EA still have not supplied the flood defences they recommended and offered to fund back in 2013!

I feel for those who are still not home. It is difficult to explain what this experience does to your head.

Congrats and good luck in your old new home!

What excuse have the EA given for not doing the defence work? Apart from hand wringing and turning trouser pockets inside out.

Really pleased to hear you're back home at last.

Also nice to hear praise of the insurer. Makes a nice change as you generally only hear tales of woe and there had to be some good guys out there.

I trust you cracked a bottle or two :)

We will have a proper celebration once the snagging works are completed ;)

The EA's surveyors have been great and very helpful but there does not seem to be a good process for converting their recommendations into action. Some other locals have had their works done now so perhaps ours is coming soon.

I fixed that for you! :-)
