Problem with the new forum?! never!

I've had a drivers license for a few years, but finally won't have to renew it every 6 months now. CA don't write nasty things across them about being aliens, etc. so was never too bad.

Have to call USCIS tomorrow as not sure if I need to visit them to get my visa cancelled/passport stamped/surrender work permit etc. Nice shiny green card arrived in the mail yesterday

Also discovered that I can't hold a USCG license as a permanent resident but only as a citizen which kind of puts a damper on job plans...

Do need to sort some sensible priced health insurance though...

My licence is valid through to 2022 and no mention on it of me being an alien, I am even now shown as 'male'.


DO get health insurance before you need it as afterwards they don't want to know. WE have Medicare as fully qualified old wrinklies but not Medicaid which is for the people with no funds whatsoever and involves them going through every bank account you ever had. we have supplements to that via AARP (JOIN IF your ages qualify) I think via United Healthcare but SWMBO is my agent who has learned all the ins and outs and could probably get a job doing it now.... We also havea prescription drugs plan because they really know how to rip you off on prices otherwise (my statins woul have cost $180/month but now only $20 through the plan cover). Get dental cover too, I had to have two wisdom teeth out (complicated by being on blood thinners) and that was $600 reduced to $150 with a new dental policy even though started after I new I had a problem. but then my new dentist (a brit) has listed out $4000 of stuff he wants to The NHS may not be perfect but this is a massive rip off industry here. My Doctor Doctor Surgery has 14 people who do nothing but handle insurance claims for patients who have had treatment, think what their salaries add to the bills.THEY Also have two charge rates on for self pay and another double rate for those with insurance, no wonder the insurances cost so much with opportunistic thievery like that going on.

Yeah, I got hit by a car last December and that was nearly $3000 for a couple of hours in ER! Fortunately the driver that decided to ignore the stop sign is going to be paying that bill.

CA issues drivers licenses for 5 years at a time or for the duration of your legal residence. Some states apparently make it clear that you are a non immigrant until the greencard is approved apparently.
