hello all
ive got a baby blake loo
the handle is very stiff unless i leave it in the up position it feels like im going to rip the toilet off its mountings.
ive got the loo out of the boat and taken apart, aside from the bucket washers being hard
i cant see any wear in the discharge tube. my thinking before stripping it, was there would be a groove in the discharge tube but it looks fine there.
so
has any one had this issue
cheers

You may find that the discharge pipe from the bottom of the bowl to the bottom of the discharge pump is almost totally blocked with calcium deposits and you are trying to create a vacuum hence the resistance.
I know it sounds unlikely but I have seen it happen more than once.

My BB does this at times when not used ....

My thinking is that the discharge pump 'seal washers' basically stick to the pump tube wall ..... I just apply steady pull on the handle .. no jerks or sudden hard pulls .... it slowly yields and then a few pulls through with washing up liquid squirted into the bowl has it moving nicely.

Having learnt the hard way I now strip down my Baby Blake at the end of every season and reassemble at the start after an overhaul and lube of the washers. They do tend to get very stiff or seize up if left unused for a long period as Refueler says.

the bottom pipe seems clear
but i will check with a camera.
ive always kept the grease cap full and nipped it down a little .
im waiting to hear back from blakes re two new bucket washers. im unsure if ones from else where are the same quality as theirs, or is the sales pitch on blakes site "it should last 20 years "
theres some on ebay at £25 each free post
i dont want to have to strip it again in a couple of years
cheers

My boat is 1973 ..... I have owned it since about year 2000 ..... it still has the same 'washers' in it as the day I bought the boat. I have not stripped / serviced it ever.

As to the grease caps - they only provide sealing grease for the pump shafts exits from the casings. They do not lubricate the pump washers at all.

I know some disagree with me - but I regard the BB as the BEST bog a boat can have ... it just works ! Nothing complicated about it ...

The only matter is the price of one and the cost of service kits !!

My 38ft has a Jabsco and I HATE IT ... I have even considered swapping the BB with the Jabsco - so the BB is on the more used boat ... putting the Jabsco where it will rarely be used.
