I have an 2001 B&G wind instrument
When I first turn it on it don't register with wind direction or speed , most says 18.8 kts .
Turning it on and off a few times it comes to life and works .
I removed the winter instrument from the mast and all free and looks fine .
If it was a looses connection one would think it be an intermittent problem but the problem is there every times its turned on .
Any suggestion ?
Thanks .

Speak to your friendly B&G agent. There was a batch of transducers that were not great quality. We had issues with ours and got it replaced. Unfortunately it was replaced with one from the same batch, so has stopped reading again. I need to arrange for ours to be swapped out again...

If you have a Nexus unit, you can check the diagnostic lights on it. Ours indicate an issue with the N2K network although everything else is working fine.

In the B&G system the wind instrument incorporates the termination of the backbone. Could the problem be an issue with this component? Perhaps not as I assume it might affect everything else as well but it might be worth enquiring.
mine is the earlier type no backbone .
its around 2001

Just a thought. No idea how correct this is:

Would a test using multimeter on the connections from the transducer show whether there is a signal from the transducer to the head unit ?

I imagine you could test this when 1) It is working and 2) It is not. See if there is a difference. If there is, then something is not right from the transducer or the connecting cable. I think.

Mine was not working at all ... B&G Network system .... found last guy had set it up wrong ...

Reset the displays and now all works - except my 'cups' don't turn ... so no speed readout. But direction and Tack show ok.

Its my depth that is all a cock now ..... Oh for a simple system !!

Arguably that was a bit of string with a lead weight and for the rest 20 years of experience at sea.

Electronics, when they work, make it easier :)

but more seriously

electronic depth is a real boon, wind, direction and strength - one should 'feel' - you know if you are overpressed, need to tack. If you are racing data might be more useful. Bragging rights 'it was gusting 55 knots' not so important.

Considering this is on a Racer ... the Wind / Tack displays may have a bit of relevance ....

Must admit that I won various races over the years with just a plain Windex at top of mast ... 'feel' is not just the air on your face ... but also the helm in your hand .. both 'talk' to you ...
