Azimut hell one owners experiance

How can the mods pull it as its out there on U Tube for everyone to see now? Why should we be censored and U Tube not?

Got to watch the video this time. You would expect a few snags with an new boat but this is hard to believe. Makes me less frustrated about always buying second hand :)

He was very upbeat throughout. Guess he might want to sell it at some point!!!

I did note, there where some components that failed which where nothing to do with azimut....not many though.

Perhaps secondhand is better sometimes. Would you buy a new sq78 or JFM's sq78 after a few seasons of use and perfecting.

To clarify it was pulled last time as it was on a password protected site, nothing to do with advertisers.

As far as I am concerned it can stay as its on a public site.

Again, nothing to do with advertisers so drop that line.

You can only feel sorry for this owner. His boat should never have been passed to sales in Italy, before considerable rectification, and many of his ancillaries were very poorly fitted. The issues with the gelcoat I don't really understand. I thought the mould was sprayed with a release agent, before the gelcoat, then the fibreglass on top of the gelcoat. The owner is saying that the gelcoat on his boat was sprayed on after the hull was released from the mould, and that his hull was not properly prepared prior to painting. Others (JFM?) will comment on this as a process. The water drain hoses should never run uphill, and these were clearly not built correctly at the factory. Was this the first 48? Problems with the Bose, aircon and joystick controls, I'm guessing were the fault of the dealer. Perhaps even the aircon, as this may have been fitted at the dealer? The ZF controls and stbd engine issues were factory problems, and dealer technicians were clearly not competent. Lifting and repairing the wrong engine? Non availablility of technicians/fitters? Change the dealer!

Azimut need to get a grip on this dealer, as he has neither served himself, the customer or Azimut.

I think the owner, while rightly p!ssed orf, has tried to show a balanced view, stating where things are properly repaired or fixed. I feel for him.

Have to admire the calm balanced way he dealt with the video.

Like most things in life every now and again there will be problems but this seemed excessive.

Would it put me of an Azimut, no but I would ensure that the hand over process was more thorough than with previous boats

I'm sorry but what components were nothing to do with Azimut? if Azimut have decided to put a certain components in their boats then they, in my mind, become accountable for the quality of them. Someone else may be responsible for fixing that component when it goes wrong but surely overall accountability remains with the organisation selling the boat in its entirety, including any 3rd party components. as such, they have a responsibility to assure the quality of the components and the service organisations that act on their behalf during the warranty period

Agree with that entirely. Its an indication of how backward the boatbuilding industry is that many builders still try to lay off blame for component failure on to the component manufacturers. Its a bit like BMW blaming Bosch for the failure of the starter motor on your new 5 series. In any case, the boatbuilder is contractually liable for the serviceability of all of the components on it's boats so trying to blame the component manufacturer is futile anyway

Gary, I think Farsco was alluding to the things added to the boat by the dealer, like the Bose, Ice Maker (small fridge in the cockpit). I'm not excusing Azimut for this tail of woe, there are many things they did wrong. I wonder if the poor owner had tried to contact Azi directly? The dealer was appalling in this instance.
Anyone think the mooring warps are a bit dainty too?

I agree with all the posts above. I was trying to differentiate between factory issues and individual "off the shelf" component failure. For example the plotter screen flickering at night. Completely agree it is up to azimut or dealer to sort if they supplied and put it in and they will in due course take it up with the manufacturer just as bmw would Bosch no doubt. Of course if things haven't been fitted to manufacturer specs then they, the manufacturer, would or could say jog on :)
