I have lost one of the prop anode screws. The anodes are dia 45mm Beneteau type, and there is an allen key screw into the propshaft. Unfortunately I won another idiot award at the weekend, and didn't bring its brother home so I could source a replacement. Any idea's out there?

I am working on my boat opposite deacons as we speak, is it anywhere I could pick it up and post it to you or even measure it?

Many thanks for the offer. Yes, if you can measure the one on the LH prop, that would be great. Rafiki is on the hard near the pontoon entrance. Damson covers.

It is an M10 and about 75mm long, I am here for another hour if you need anything else.

Brilliant, many thanks. Virtual pint on its way, and a real pint on Rafiki when we get back on the water.

Another question. Would the screw for the starboard prop have a LH thread, or are both screws RH thread? Looking at the pic, and given this is off the port prop, it looks like a RH thread to me?

Good question, I am at home now or I could have tried it on the stb side.

While the subject of handed is raised -interesting
My prop anodes are 60 cm hexagonal and both are rh .
We use loc tight thread loc -blue stuff --- not impressed last season I lost the port and the Stb came loose .
It's easy for me to get a Allan key ( mine are Allen internal hex bolts ) when snorkelling to nip em up .

What do folks use to stop em undoing --- remember in the Med there's quite a lot of reverse thrust required on one side - to turn it in a confined space when docking --and getting out + gen manoeuvreing through marinas etc .

Was thinking about a bit of mix up two part epoxy smeared --but obviously need to undo .
Also as they erode -- do they need nipping up any how ,because they are shrinking all over inc the fit surface to the brass prop bolt?

Any ideas ?

I would not be surprised if both RH thread, as the props work happily in fwd and reverse gears, despite port and starboard being contra-rotating.
Vas, the screw was missing when RAF lifted. Anode gone so I assume the screw lost clamping load, loosened and fell out.

Dies the forum use loctite on the threads?

Loctite blue is likely 243 which is medium strength and will tolerate mild surface oil contamination, whereas 242 won't tolerate oil. The next up is 270 which is green, if you use 270 there is a possibility you will not undo it even when you want to.

If you want added security then using loctite 243 plus a split washer is about as much as you can do.
