Axopar Build Quality

Do you know how the boat was being driven , What was the sea state , If it was a complete bow stuff then not surprised,
You need to have respect for the sea, if the bow was completely under water that is a lot of weight on the bow and not in the direction the boat was designed to take that much extra weight.

In the comments, the guy who posted the video said:
"apparently it caught air for a good two seconds or so .. the water tank was full. The platform is not very solid so it let loose"

A good 2 seconds?! Jesus christ I'm surprised that's all that broke.

2 seconds airtime?
It doesn't have wings, it's meant to be a boat.
I'm surprised the owner didn't have to check into A&E for a hip replacement.

Having said that, the design of that deck with a heavy water tank and limited support doesn't look as good as it could be. The weight of the tank is being carried only by the bonding at the sides. Maybe a shaped tank that nestled lower down in the V with the deck only supporting lighter items would have been better,

But almost any boat will break eventually if you drive it hard enough.

Probably wasnt anywhere near 2 seconds in the air, but it probably felt it from the people in the boats perspective.

It does look a bit of a poor design to have that weight supported by that shelf, however it looks like its not going to be that difficult to repair, or modify to make sure it doesnt happen again.

As per burgundyben - no big deal if its just superficial as it appears to be

I read in the comments, the guy repairing said the owner didn't want to have it repaired with extra support. Either a brave/stupid decision or he's had a "we won't be doing THAT again" moment.

Something that looks like a racing boat is going to get driven by a lot of people who think they are race drivers

I’m not jumping on a “knock Axopar” bandwagon but there was also a worrying incident highlighted on the SuperYachtCaptain series on You Tube - they have an Axopar 37 as a chase boat/tender and the bow thruster on their boat dropped off.
Hopefully these are just isolated incidents because I admire the company for all that they’ve achieved in a very short time but it would be reassuring to hear from the company with explanations and re-assurances.

2 seconds of free fall is a 19.6m (64 foot) drop slamming into water at 70km/h (43mph). And that is all that broke?! I'd say this is a fantastic recommendation to the OP. Buy one now!

You mean this?

The water tank incident looks bad but actually it looks like an internal bonding issue rather than any kind of structural hull issue. If I were to guess it looks like the moulding on which the water tank sits is too thin and has been flexing, causing the bonding failure. Yes, its poor design and yes you could probably ask why they chose to put a heavy weight like the water tank so far forward

Having said this, I've experienced internal bonding issues with mouldings on a Fairline so this kind of thing is not unique. I wouldnt want to knock Axopar either because they are producing an exciting product at a competitive price and I'm sure they'll get this right

The guy that runs Axopar responded to this incident on the Axopar Owners Facebook Group.

The reason to put a water tank too far forward is because the outboards are too far back

Yeah youre right although they could have just said to owners just make sure you've got a fat bloke sitting on the bow before you go out of the marina

That would worry me a whole lot more. If there was only one person onboard or an inexperienced crew, that boat would be dead in the water until it was eventually under the water.

Youre right. The b/t incident was a possible sinking whereas the water tank one wasnt

The chase boat video shows that in a superyacht crew everyone is lean and fit?

You or I would never be allowed on a superyacht would we? Just not chic and glamorous enough ?
