Can anyone help? I've recently bought a Nicholson 38 which has a faulty pinta autopilot does anyone have a electrical wiring diagram or know anyone who rapairs these things. Or has anyone replaced there system and if so which unit did you use and was the installation easy.

Eddie,

Try "Boz" Sparks at Island Harbour, Isle of Wight. You can get him via the Richardson's chandlery.

I have a 'fully functioning' Pinta on my Halberdier... I also have the manual !

Its down on the boat so I will try to remember to bring it back and photocopy it.

What is the problem with yours ? Mine lives in a very dry locker in the saloon and I'm very careful about over loading it....2 factors that I'm sure have contributed to its long life.

The gentleman who serviced (and I believe designed and built them) was based in Brighton but has 'long gone'.

What 'drive' unit have you got.. mine is a rotary drive onto the shaft running aft from the center wheelhouse to the turning box down by the rudder quadrant.

I have played around with various systems ex ebay etc. and come to the conclusion that electric auto pilots are like lawnmowers... ie you never sell 'em unless they have a problem ! So basically don't replace with a pre loved unit .

Before going out and buying a new one ....get lots of advice and as the Nich 38 is probably similar to the Halberdier is so far as she is maybe a touch heavy on the helm compared to modern yachts with balanced rudders...What i'm saying is that you need to be well 'over' spec..

Regards Nick
