Can anyone give an indication of the cost of purchasing and installing an autopilot system in a 12m twin engine, shaft drive cruiser?

What plotter do you have? Many act as a head unit for autopilot

Some Raymarine options here
You will need a control head, course computer, EV unit and pump assuming that you have hydraulic steering - all of the appropriate capacity for your boat. Will integrate with a Raymarine plotter, which can also control the autopilot when following a track. Need to consider installation costs as well unless you are able to DIY.
I installed a Raymarine system on our last boat and have it on our current boat and I prefer their kit - other manufacturers available

Current plotter is Garmin 6012 but may consider adding a separate Raymarine
Steering is hydraulic.

Garmin do autopilot systems but I haven’t had good experiences with those I have used. Might just have been unlucky of course.
