Got one of these 2nd hand for Autohelm 7000 control panel + Type 300 12V Course Computer.

The manual for the computer suggests that you can have a GyroPlus as an extra, but gives no hint as to where and how to fit it.

i.e. does it need to be at the centreline, or anywhere? vertical or horizontal, facing fore and aft etc....

Given that it merely senses yaw, logic says that it orientation and location dont matter, but they may. Vertical or horizontal may be an issue.

Any help gratefully accepted
Cheers

I fitted the same thing last year. I seem to recall that there's a separate manual on the Raymarine website. for the Gyro unit, which I think (??) might be model number Z130.

In case you can't find the manual, the gyro is mounted vertically on a tranverse mounted bulkhead/panel as close as possible to the middle of the boat and, as far as possible, away from any magentic influence. I ended up putting mine in a cupboard in the pilothouse. Can't say I've noticed any major difference, but probably haven't played with it enough to find out for sure.

There's a GyroPlus owner's manual here on the Raymarine website. I have the second-generation Smart Heading System on my boat, and its manual has more information on siting which will be relevant also for your unit.

Fabulous - and quick as usual.

With a Type 300 computer the Gyroplus only works in response level 3... which we dont use much, but it seems that it is useful downwind.

Thanks again!!!

Hi Richard

I have a plastic moulded water tank under the saloon berths.
So I bonded a piece of plywood on the end using Sikaflex and screwed the fluxgate onto this (short screws!) This for me seems to be an ideal spot as it is low and in the middle of the boat. It's also not likely to have anything magnetic put next to it.

A friend of mine done a similar thing but forgot about the speakers mounted alongside giving poor performance and 20 degrees error.
It is connected to a 6001 inboard pilot which performs very well but was 'interesting' fitting the motor.

Good luck

Neil
