Autohelm 1000 Installation Dimensions

That is the very original Autohelm dating back nearly 40 years when the company was known as Nautec and is very different from the AH 1000. My guess is that the 480mm is correct as the mounting pin on the AH 1000 is on the end of the casing meaning the distance between the pin and the tiller would be greater.

You can easily check by powering the ram up and stopping at mid point and measuring the distance between the pins.
Thanks Tarona, I am leaning towards working on 480mm, but I just wanted to see if someone did have a manual. Will definitely give the measuring between the two extremes a go, thanks for the genius idea!

I don't understand - if you've got the thing, why don't you measure it? Then you can be certain that the measurement you end up with is for yours, and not some other model.

Pete
I noticed the ram can be manually screwed in and out so I had no idea if it was in the correct position (or not)! Very easy to measure, no idea if it's in the correct length! :)

I have 3 AH Tiller Pilots ... the AH800 - came with the boat over 20yrs ago. Still perfect working order.
AH1000 I bought to fit to my previous boat but never did ... so that's been with me at least 25 years. Perfect working order.
AH1000 that was bought as not working for parts after I had silly quote from dealer for service !!

Only two items I have replaced on them ... the 12v power plug as the two pin marine plug after so many years said enough is enough ! And the remote cable plug / socket in the 800 and 1000 ... similar situation - old and tired.

Here's my 1000 working yesterday with its cable remote. I had the cable replaced on the remote to allow me to be at mast while still able to control ...

This is reassuring, as I was it was anecdotal stories about the long term reliability of the Autohelms that convinced it was worth a punt.

I'VE FOUND IT . . . Its a 1000M ( I knew the manual would be on Raymarines website)

Unfortunately the manual is in German, but the required dimension is 58 cm

Vic S, you are an absolute legend! I have just genuinely let out a yelp of delight when I saw your picture. Right, it's time to break out the drill and tape measure! Many, many thanks!!!

Only reservation ... forget the Z075 Nav Interface ... I have one and I could never get it to work .... so you will NEVER be able to connect to Plotter.

BUT as a stand alone Tiller Pilot ... I never leave home without both the 1000 and 800 as back-up.

If I was to get another - then the ST1000 would be same dimensions and has capability for connection to plotter.

When I have been looking for information on here First I look for an answer from someone I trust such as Vic S failing that I see if the same answer occurs from a few different sources which gives me confidence.

Often similar replies will contain very slightly different or extra bits of useful info.eg I think my reply is the only one that advocates not measuring across the pins but fitting the tiller end on it's pin then marking directly off the other pin onto the seat.

If I get 10 similar replies to a question I would be delighted and "like" all of them.

This childish "Lake Sailor"game playing discourages multiple similar replies and denies the op the knowledge that more than one person agrees .
